Good Day, That is quite an easy thing to do. Immediately you turn on your PC, after displaying the brand (for some PC), the computer dispalys 'press F__ to enter boot setup'. If you can't get to read it, either press F2, F12, F10 or F1 continously after you turn on your system. Then you can make your corrections. I hope this helps. Thank you for using Fixya.
Use your system restore disks to repair your computer since the OS is FUBAR Without those disks you are SOL. And if you never made them or lost them, now you have learned first hand why it is so important to have them.
Go to the dell site and see if they have your original OS in an iso file for installation. If so that will save your sorry b---.
You should first check to make sure the fan is working. Just open it up and turn it on and see if the fan is functioning properly. If not then you can just order a replacement fan from Dell.
open it ...remove the bios battery and after that put it back ..this will reset it ...and will boot ...just set the time and date and press f10 to exit and save ... if it still fail to boot after that it has another issue ..probably a cpu fan or a ram memory
Please look into the computer bios / cmos setup and see if the dvd drive is detected there, if its not detected then its not either connected properly or this type of drive will not work with this computer. in that case try the drive on another computer or try another drive on your computer.
to enter bios, please look at the monitor right when you turn the power on, you should have a message to press button to enter system setup or bios or cmos setup. etc.
Possibly F1 or F2, DEL, it depends and the computer will tell you what button is the right one.
Boot the system. Press F2 to enter the BIOS setup.
Press ALT-F
Press ALT-B
Computer will restart and display a message indicating it is
re-detecting IDE drives. After a minute or so, Windows will start. Test
the device that wasn't working before.
If you want to restore other BIOS settings you have set,
such as the boot sequence, you will have to restart the computer and
enter BIOS setup again.
If this does not work try another usb keyboard in the same port.
Some very old Sharp PCs require a Setup Diagnostics Disk to access BIOS.
Shuttle - Glamor G-Series, D'vo, Prima P2-Series, Workstation, X Mini XPC, Surveillance
Press F2 or Del on startup.
Sony - VAIO, PCG-Series, VGN-Series
Press F1, F2 or F3 after turning on the computer.
Toshiba - Portégé, Satellite, Tecra
Press F1 or Esc after powering on to access BIOS.
The following companies are either closed for business or no longer manufacture or support mainstream computers systems so verifying the following BIOS access information is nearly impossible. I have included what I could dig up for anyone who might be interested: ARI / ALR / AST (Advantage) - Press the Ctrl+Alt+Esc or Ctrl+Alt+Del keys. Cybermax - Press the Esc key. Tandon - Press the Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys.
Hi...you can press the F2 key to enter setup...and scroll down until the fan is highlited...hit enter and then F10 to save and exit. This tells the computer its OK. you should have plugged the fan in the same pin port the old fan was in. Usually only 1,. If the new fan is not from dell..it may be faster and noiser..or it may be faulty..if you bought it locally you may try to return it. The purpose of the fan of course is to remove the hot air from the CPU to keep it from overheating. If this fan does it it is most likely ok. Hope this helps.. Squipps
Thanks
