My Cobra 29 LTD sometimes does not work even though the lights remain on. In other words I can't talk on it or hear anyone even though it appears to be operational

Your mic or mic jack is faulty. Try a different mic. In cobra 29's and some other variants, when you disconnect the mic, the audio is disabled. It will still receive, and transmit(possibly) but you will hear nothing from the radio.

It could be,
  • Broken wire on the back of the mic jack in the radio.
  • Broken wire in the mic cord.
  • Disconnected wires in the mic for the switch.
  • Dirty mic connection pins.
Most likely the problem is with the mic, and not the radio.

I have a cobra 29 ltd cb radio> when i click the mic i dont get transmission> do i need to tune my antenna or do i have a problem with the mic or radio?

It's the mic or radio like you said try this
unplug the mic the RX (receive) will stop
working there are 4 pins take a small screwdriver short one pin at a time to the
side of the plug an watch the meter if you
find one that makes the meter jump over
then your mic is bad.last if that don't work
then short 2 pins together and not to the side
of the plug. there is nothing that will hurt you
or the radio.hope this helps.I have worked
with radios and outher electronics for over
22 years. Good Luck

I suggest buying a 5 pin to 4 pin adapter. Ebay has them for $6. I would go chopping wires on the mic. Cobra 29 ltd is a nice radio. Have one myself.
