I have a 42 inch Vizio Gallevia flat screen TV just under four (4) years old. After approximately ten minutes or so being turned on - three quarters of the screen from top to bottom goes darker - the top quarter of the screen is normal. After that - the darkening goes from side to side...After 20 minutes or so the picture is normal, and continues to be for the duration of watching TV...I have spoken to two flat screen repair men, and one says it's a bad "inverter module" - cost to fix = $150.00 or so...Another flat screen repair fellow said, "it's a bad LCD screen internally - not cost effective or worth fixing." Also, I received one posting reply from fiya stating, "it's possibly a loose backlight connection, or the backlight itself." Does anyone know definitively what is wrong with my Vizio TV??? Thank you!

SOURCE: My 46 inch Sanyo flat screen turns on and right off again

Might be worth it if it cost over 500.00 dollars, I had a simular problem with a Yamaha HTR receiver... the cause was the power adapter/converter was overheating... so it sounds like something along those lines... It cost me 129.00 dollars to fix my receiver so I would say 100.00 dollars or less... I saw a 42" LCD at the local electronic's store selling New ones for about 400.00 now..

I have a 2007 Vizio that after about 4 years began having a startup problem where the screen flashes on and off until it warms up, about 10 minutes on a cold day. For the split second that it is on,

Vizio is a good television. But over the years, the Capacitors will dry up. Flat Panel tv's that come from china use cheap capacitors, even in Vizios. There are monitoring IC's, and if the reference voltage (what the capacitor is supplying to the IC), the set will not turn on, or will be intermittent. Replace the Capacitors on the power supply board and see if set comes on. The Reference IC is a good way of telling if a capacitor is bad. The IC monitors reference voltage in the supply area.

4 year old vizio 42 inch tv lcd. While watching tv, the screen started dimming. There is a 4 inch shadow all along left side of the screen and the 1 inch line shadow going down the middle of the screen.

Maybe a power supply or related issue but at 4 years of age the set has reached its life span----parts will be hard or impossible to find.

If you got four years I would retire it and recycle it and then replace it.

I turn on the tv and it has a blue screen and no

Just try to reset so picture will back to normal again, some LCD TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the LCD TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the LCD TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the LCD TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the LCD TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the LCD TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the LCD TV.

Hope it may help you;

Thinking about buying a used Vizio 42"

Don't buy it. VIZIO is not standing by their products.

My GV42L had issues from the ssart and now it shows No Signal and shuts of in 2-3 seconds. I read many similar issues on this site with VIZIO.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
