Maytag machine, will not spin to drain

Will not spin and makes a high pitch squeal with a burning smell

Hello chuckf206 ,

Sounds like the roller clutch bearings in your machine are seized/rusted up. Do you want to try to DIY the repair?

The high pitch squeal ia most likely the serpentine belt on the front of the engine you can buy some belt dressing from the part store and put it on there and fix that or some soap will work also, the belt may also need to be tightened. As for the egg smell if it smells like eggs it's the catylitic converter doing it's job and is normal, although you should not be able to smell it inside the car when driving you may have an exhaust leak and could be very dangerous carbon monoxide exposure.

Maytag electric dryer is making a high pitched noise
The squealing noise is from the belt tensioner. Replace the pulley only on the tensioner along with a new belt. The bearing in the pulley is causing the squeal. Sears will sell this in a kit. The top and the front panel of the dryer will have to be removed to replace these parts

The belt has been ruined. Basically there was to much load on the belt. You will need to replace the belt, maybe a 20 dollar fix and should take no longer then 15 minutes. Just make sure that before you go to the parts house, your remove the old belt and take it with you along with the model and serial number of the machine.

MAYTAG top loader makes high pitched squeal when agitating/spinni
This is a classic symptom of pulley/motor shafts/bearings in need of lubrication. It's not the agitator. You'll need to take the back off (with power unplugged) to access.

Chances are there is just something in the pmp if you take the 2 black hoses off the pump you will be able to see if there is anything in it. hope this helped

Most probably the bearings heating, which in turn heats the rubber seals and causes the belt to slip.
If there is no noise of metal on metal, you may be able to grease the bearings to get some more life out of them.
Taking the drum out is not an easy job though.
