Tfx20jr not cooling

Defrosted by hand with hair dryer. Checked the defrost timer - works, still not cooling in refrigerator. Freezer is cold and the wall between the two compartments very cold. Does this mean that the wall is frozen and should be shut down for 24 hrs. or more??

SOURCE: GE TFX27PF refrigerator and freezer still not getting cold enough

the partial frost pattern is an indication of low refrigerant, restriction or bad compressor. if the unit is under 5 years old this repair will probably be under warranty thru GE. if out of warranty then you are looking in most cases between 200-500 dollars for repair. good luck Thanx peyton

SOURCE: GE Refrigerator/Freezer not cooling

Loss of coldness is common with compressor related problems....relay and overload(simple fix), loss/leak of refridgerant(need a cert. tech). need to check the compressor and see if its running....do this by pulling the unit out and removing the back panel, place your hand on the compressor and see if it feels like its running....if not probably just a relay, if it is running, could be a more serious problem dealing with sealed system.

Do you have ice /frost buildup on freezer wall?If so auto defrost is not working.3 possible causes ,turn the defrost timer manually to defrost position either measure amps @ 3.5 amps or listen in freezer section for crackling popping or sizzling. If you dont hear/measure this you have a bad heater or defrost tstat .Remove freezer wall look at top of coil for thermodisc 2 wires and 1 or 2 glass heaters (btm, mid coil).Tsat can be bypassed by connecting the 2 wires or checked for continuity closed at approx 20'.heaters may be visibly burnt or broken recommend changing both parts

Refrigerator warm, Freezer cold

This might indicate loss of refrigerant. If so, you must replace. Check the front of the bulkhead separating the compartments, if too hot to hold your hand on it, check underneath to see if the fan on the condenser coil is blocked. I found a mouse had committed suicide in one.

The freezer is freezing but the refrigerator is not cooling.

you need to check for operation of the evaporator fan in the freezer compartment if it is not turning your fridge will not get cold.
also make sure there is not alot of ice build up on the evaporator this will also cause the fridge to get warm. it can be defrosted by using a hair dryer.then check the continuity on your defrost heater if there is no continuity then replace it.you may also need to replace the defrost timer only if the heating element checks out as good

Fridge does not get cold

I had the same problem. The problem was my freezer was not defrosting itself and for a while i opened up the back and manually defrosted the freezer with a hair dryer (to make it defrost faster) and lots of towels (to soak up all the water). I replaced the defrost heater in the freezer and no more problem. Go to searspartsdirect.com and put in your model # then look for the part. Hope this helps.

Water leaking into the refrigerator from the freezer.

you have to defrost the freezer part and drain tube in the freezer,a hair dryer works well,if after you defrost it and freezes again its your defrost timer, make sure its fully defrosted first before buying the defrost timer

Refrigerator part does not get cold

again, defrost heater problem. 3 things... 1 ..defrost heater itself, could be broken, 2...thermodisc, could be open also, 3...electronic timer or electronic heater controller malfunctioning...may need an expert to trace all 3 items.
