The machine fills up fine and tumbles the drum ok from the start of a wash program. As soon as it comes to emptying (between wash phases), however, the pump runs intermittently and the drum makes a little jerk once at the end of each pumping attempt (it looks like the drum motor rotates a couple of times only at this point). The machine continues in this behaviour indefinately, even once the drum is empty of water. The machine also sticks in this state if it is started on spin. We have checked all the hoses for blockage (cleaned them and refitted them), and checked the pressure hose is ok - I suppose it wouldn't stop filling if it was anything to do with that. We have had the pump off and examined it - it seems OK, except when we try to spin the impeller with a finger, it seems very very 'notchy' - should this particular pump spin freely ? We didn't open up the actual motor bit of the pump. Could a fault in the pump cause the misbehaviour of the drum observed ?
What you have is whats called a magnetic pump it should feel jerky to rotate but should be free without locking up, this pump is designed this way to avoid little things getting blocked in it. if the pump is free from blockages and works electrically, then the pump is not a problem, the problem sounds like the motor or the motor control board pcb which is located at the side of the timer (i think on that model) first check the motor carbons for wear, the armature for signs of burning or sparking, then the module for any signs of scorching etc, difficult thing to diagnose without test equipment but you now have somewhere to start from when looking hope i have helped a little
