Look in device manager to see which drivers you need. The ATI drivers are kind of picky so look in device manager to get the exact hardware names that are marked with yellow or red. With the upgrade you lost some drivers and will have to get them on the web with the names listed in device manager
Testimonial: "Thank you for your help in this matter. I have been picking at this problem for a few weeks and no answers. Maybe someday. lol Thanks again!"

Keyboard might have gone bad. Try hooking up a external keyboard and see if they work. If they don't then you have a motherboard issue. If they do then it is a keyboard issue. If you lucky it is just a keyboard then you can get one here for 20 bucks.

It is really easy to replace.

there's a small switch usually located physically on the body of the laptop or sometimes on the inverter called a close lid switch. it may have gone bad, you can either try to replace the inverter to see if it helps or you can look for that physical switch

While your savvy friend was in there Gerry, do you know if said friend replaced the Thermal Paste on the Processor? (And Graphics chipset)
Thermal Paste dries up due to age, and the repeated heating from Processor. (And Graphics chipset. Also known as G.P.U.,
Looses it's thermal conductivity.
See if BIOS Setup has a Hardware Monitor option, and watch the temperatures.
If you want to know more about the internal hardware inside you all-in-one, you can download the free CPU-Z from CPUID.com,
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
7 tabs
CPU (Processor), Caches, (Processor), Mainboard, (Motherboard), Memory, (Ram Memory), SPD, (Serial Presence Detect - Ram Memory), Graphics, (Graphics chipset info), and About.
When CPU-Z opens it automatically opens to the CPU tab.
1.62 setup, english in purple > Download now! in purple > Click on Save File > Allow it to fully download > DOUBLE-click right on the file name.
(Microsoft 'squawk box' = Click on Run)
DOUBLE-click on CPU-Z desktop icon.
If I may ask;
1) How was the Back Stand removed?
A) Were there any hidden screw/s under labels/stickers?
B) Is there a tab to depress, or lift to release the Back Stand once the screw/s are removed?
C) How many screws?
2) Was the Back Cover removal next? Screws around the outside perimeter are normal design, and easily found; were there any hidden screw/s?
3) Back Cover 'pop off' like the Palm Rest Cover on a laptop does?
!O_O!
The Back Cover will have Tabs, that match Latches going around the computer Front Panel. They have to be pried on WITH finesse, and released.
I realize you may, or may not have been present during disassembly.
I would ask for any information relating to this, not only for myself, but for MANY people in the future who search for this on the internet.
Disassembly procedures that you/friend have done is enough to disassemble further, for deeper problems; or to access just replacing the LCD screen.
Most Display Bezel's have screws that are accessed ONLY from the INSIDE. Meaning the Back Cover has to be removed, in order to replace the LCD screen.
