My Kenmore model 110-20922990 stops mid-way through the rinse cycle full of water. The lid switch is tight and intact to the best I can determine. The machine just stops mid-way through the rinse cycle without any other noise or smells. The water does not drain and it stops agitating as well. Is my selector switch shorting out at all Rinse and Spin cycles? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Same thing just started happening to me. I know this is an old thread but can you tell me what part you had to get to have it fixed. Mine is doing the same thing it doesn't finish the rinse cycle and then spin and my machine is full of water still. The other day I put it to spin and it actually worked and drained the water but I ran another load and it's not working at all now. I was told it could be something to do with my timer or dial knob. And Sears just told me a timer switch is a 112 bucks. But I was wondering why someone said the lid switch needs to be replaced cause that part was only 36 bucks.

Found out if I held down on my lid it worked so it is my switch my screws were lose and wouldn't tighten back on there right. I could by pass the switch but I am just going to buy a new one cause my friend can put it on at no charge,

I am no repair man but my kenmore model 311066266100 washer is doing the same thing and I am pretty sure the timer switch is no good.

  • Anonymous Jan 02, 2012

So what did it end up being? I was told a lid switch is 36 bucks a timer switch is 112 but my friend who is going to fix it at no charge said the timer switch is easier and he may not be able to do the lid switch.

Washer stops between wash and rinse, and stays full of water. ld code

Lid Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer stops mid cycle the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Water Inlet Valve

If the washer stops mid cycle the water inlet valve cold water side may have failed. Most washers have a cold water rinse and so if they can't fill with cold water they just sit indefinitely waiting for the cold water to enter. If there is cold water to the water inlet valve and the cold water works in other parts of the cycle - or to make warm water - the valve is not the problem.

Main Control Board

If the washer stops mid-cycle the main control board might be defective. This is not common. Check other causes first such as the lid or door switch and other components.

Kenmore model 110-20722990 stops mid-way through the rinse cycle full of water. The lid switch is tight and intact to the best I can determine. The machine just stops mid-way through the rinse cycle...

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=110.20722990&pathTaken=partSearch

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

The first thing I'd do is try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

This is a Whirlpool PDF on how these washers operate. It has a diagram on jumping the switch as well as a detailed section on how the transmission works.

https://secured.whirlpool.com/Service/SrvTechAdm.nsf/2cd44500d572193285256a45004fd9d6/f7e2147fa98b28cf85257122007475cb/$FILE/L-55.pdf

It also has a troubleshooting guide.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using a short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

Beyond that, I'd use the troubleshooting section of the Service Manual to test the timer. First though, I'd try it on a different cycle.

Machine stops mid cycle it will fill and agitate then stop

Check your lid switch. If the washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle and drain is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

Take note of your symptoms:

1. Washer fills, may or may not agitate, will not advance to the rinse cycle, and will NOT drain - lid switch.

2. Washer fills, does NOT agitate or spin, but WILL drain - motor coupling.

If you still have questions, please let me know. If the suggestions I have listed do not match your washer symptoms, please post back and elaborate more on what the washer is/is not doing. That way I can provide you with better assistance. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Washer stops during rinse cycle

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Kenmore 110 Series 90 stops at the rinse cycle full of water

The symptoms you describe are often caused by a lid switch malfunction. It may be loose or not making good contact. hence, the reason why you can get it to work sometimes by lifting and closing the lid. As you open and close the lid, you should hear a "clicking" sound as the lid switch is activated. If you do not hear the switch, check to make sure the lid strike in still intact. This is a small plastic piece mounted on the lid that pushes down on the switch through a slot on the wash tub opening on the right hand side. If this piece breaks off, it will give the same symptoms of a broken lid switch. Next, check the two mounting screws on the right side of the wash tub opening to make sure they are tight. These are the mounting screws for the lid switch. Sometimes they come loose and the switch does not make proper contact. If you attempt all these preliminaries, and the switch still does not seem to be working properly, replace it. A replacement can be found at searspartsdirect.com. Just type in your model number and the part will be located under the "Top and Cabinet" heading. For instructions on how to replace a lid switch, click on the following link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

This is a simple and inexpensive repair if you wish to accomplish this on your own. A replacement switch usually cost between $25 and $35. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you require further assistance.

NOTE: For future reference, it is strongly recommended that you do not slam the washer lid or place heavy objects on the lid. This can cause damage to the lid switch.
