Did you power off during updates, or un intented shutdown happened during updates.
Any noise coming from laptop like click click, something slipping again and again.

You should run repair as well as disk check to fix and repair entries.

SOURCE: Acer Aspire 5630

Seems like your VISTA upgrade didn't sucessfully upgrade itself from XP to VISTA. Seems like M$ update program detects your OS as XP and tries to install the SP3 for XP. VISTA only has SP1 released. Its currently stuck in a loop that it doesn't know what to do. Restart your laptop into safe mode by pressing F8 before the VISTA loading page comes up and go to Safe mode and backup your data and use the ACER RESTORE CD OR ACER RESTORE METHOD to help you reload your system back to factory defaults then upgrade back to vista without install any updates or connecting it to the internet.

This is my best solution to get you out of this weird and unusual situation.

SOURCE: Have an Acer 5315. Used the system's restore

Disconnect any external devices, plug in your power to a A/C outlet, re-install the restoration disk and start over.
Check your BIOS again to make sure the CD is the first boot drive. You may not be saving the BIOS change or the restore disk may not be bootable.
You can check the restore disk on any PC or laptop.
Also you may have a restoration partation on the hard disk. Get you docs. and check.

SOURCE: Hello i have an Acer Aspire One model zg5 netbook

You're going to need to boot it from the Windows XP installation disk, which means if you don't have a CD drive you'll need to get an external CD-ROM drive. This will fix the problem.

SOURCE: how to configuration hard drive to factory default

Step 1:
Which operating system ?
Laptop computers can be wonderful devices, except when the need to troubleshoot arises. Acer laptops are no different. A quick way to fix many problems with an Acer laptop running Windows is to reset it to factory settings. Resetting your Acer laptop to factory settings can eliminate slow operation, registry problems, virus problems and spyware issues. What's more, a factory reset of your laptop may reduce the need for a full reinstallation of Windows.

Back up all necessary data to an external device such as a disk, flash drive or hard drive Make sure all programs are closed and shut down your Acer laptop. Detach any external hardware such as an external hard drive or printer. Press the Power button to boot your Acer laptop. Press "Alt-F10" on your keyboard when the Acer screen appears at the start of the boot-up process. Wait a moment while Windows loads the reset files. Select "Restore System from factory default" in the Acer eRecovery Management window. Click "Next" on the next screen to continue. Click "Next" on the following destination information window. This will pop up a notice telling you that resetting your Acer laptop will erase all data and restore the laptop to its original settings and configuration. Click "OK" in the notice window to proceed with resetting your Acer laptop. Wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Error e51

All four LED's flashing together indicate an error that cannot be cleared by an end user. Normally a service call will be required.

I would recommend getting in touch with Brother or a printer technician.

Configuring updates screen

Try booting up in Safe Mode and see what happens.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode option and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal. If it boots up ok, then do a restart into your normal windows mode.

Try running the check disk utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

My acer aspire laptop has a black screen with flashing cursor in top left hand corner. How can I fix this?

When you turn off the power and start the reboot process by turning it on do you ever see anything appear on the screen? If so that means there is no problem with the screen and the problem is probably a corrupt or missing boot file or system file. You will need the operating system disc to repair this. If it's Windows XP you will need to boot from the system disk then get to the recovery console (repair option on the windows directory) and run the command: chkdsk /r This will run well over an hour or more and you will notice the percentage of completion going up and down, but let it run to completion. Then reboot and hopefully you're successful. If not, boot from the system disk again, but this time select the option to Install Windows, once you hit F8 to agree to the license windows will check for any already installed windows operating system. When it finds yours highlight it and select R to repair the existing windows operating system. This option will preserve all your documents, music, pictures, videos and any programs you have.

If windows Vista load the system disk and let it try to fix the problem by running system repair. If it can't repair it then you can get to the recovery console and type "chkdsk /r" and let it run. When finished, try rebooting. If not successful then unless you are technically inclined you will need to seek out a repairman because a good repairman will save your documents, music and pictures then reload your vista operating system.

The laptop is stuck in a cycle and won't start keeps saying configuring updates stage 3 of 3 .0% complete it thenthinks about it then screen goes dark and tries to start again. I have tried to reboot and...

Re boot in safe mode and run 'restore point' from the search box. Select a date/time just before the problem update happened. That will reset your date/time to before the update.

My hp laptop dosn't move in configuring 3 of 3 - 0%complete,and then it just switch of and on,and comes back to configuring 3 of 3 k 0% complete

Vista Update Stage 3 Stall……

You see Installing Updates Stage 3 of 3... 0% in Vista after you start or restart your computer and it never goes past 0%. Rebooting the computer doesn't change it. It still boots to Installing Windows updates 3 of 3 and never goes past that 0% mark. Sometimes Windows will even reboot in some cases. I have found that this often happens after Windows updates. I have no idea why, but this seems to be a fairly common occurrence. The last one I repaired was caused by a Service pack 1 installation.

Here's what I have done to fix the 3 of 3 error.

You will be doing a System Restore from the Vista f8 startup

Since the computer your working on is probably stuck on this screen the first step will be a hard shut down.

Hold the power button down until the computer shuts down.

Restart the computer.

Tap the f8 key about once or twice per second to get the Safe mode screen to come up.

In Windows Vista there is a new choice when the safe mode selection comes up. "Repair Your Computer"

Highlight the "Repair Your Computer" choice.

Windows will act like it is going t boot up.

You will see a System Recovery Options window.

It will ask you to choose your language.

Click Next

Select your user and put in your password. (leave blank if you don't have a password)

You should now have choices and the one you want is "System Restore"

Follow through the prompts with the Vista System Restore program.

Remember you should pick a restore point that is 1 or 2 points back.

Once you have completed the system restore process you will be asked to restart your computer. Go ahead and restart the computer. It should start correctly at this point. If you don't have a restore point available you may not be able to repair this error. I have not tried to repair one of these without a restore point yet.

Insert your OS system disk or recovery disk. reboot computer, boot from DVD, start installation of software, do not repair from the first prompt when asked, click install, once windows searches for previous version of windows click repair. This will reinstall the system folders and straighten out any registry problems. once complete you are done.
