MCDATA 4500 firmware

Make sure you have the latest firmware as this might help with your dropped connections. Also try to make a DHCP Reservation for each computer connected to your network (p. 32 in the User Manual), as that can also help prevent dropped connections.

Download the latest firmware ver. 1.23NA to your local computer. Connect your DGL-4500 router via a wired connection (ethernet) to your computer and install the firmware update following instructions in the user manual.

Hi We are using Mcdata sphereon 4500 ,mode 2031 with firmware level of 8.01.01 . can u please provide recommoned PDF/document to update the latest level.

It is in the release notes for the version you are trying to upgrade to. From your stated version, you may wish to hit the last version in the 8.x series which appears to be 8.02.00 and then go up to M-EOSc v9.6.2 before hitting M-EOSc v9.9.9 which I believe is the last version available.

If you don't see any devices connected in the DHCP client list on the router interface even when you are sure of the devices being connected, only a firmware update or a re-flashing of firmware can help. You can find the latest firmware available on the d-link support site. You can verify the model and version numbers and download the corresponding firmware. This is only fix.

I assume you downloaded the newest firmware (version 1.21NA) from this site.
Save or move it on your desktop so it's easier to find.
Connect your router to your computer with an Ethernet cable.(If you're not sure what it looks like, see here.)

Do not upgrade the firmware over a wireless connection!

On the same page, look at the FAQ's. there is an entry called "How do I upgrade the firmware on my DGL-4100/DGL-4300/DGL-4500?" It is a description of the upgrade process itself and will walk you through the steps.

I'm just amazed that they miss a really important warning. Do not unplug your router or close the browser on your computer until this process is finished. This can render your router useless and you will have a nice, expensive doorstop.
When the upgrade process starts, go have a coffee, do your dishes, whatever, but: Leave the router and your computer alone! Wait until the router's reboot is completely finished.

You can go to http://www.dlink.com/ and search for you routers model #. The model # is probably going to start with DI-xxxxx . You can then download the firmware and then upload to the router from you computer.

Problems connecting to DGL-4500

This can be a firmware problem so upgrading the firmware of the router should fix this issue on it, so I advice you to upgrade to the latest firmware of your router, you can get it from Dlink web site...

The Sphereon 4500 (ES-4500) line was purchased by Brocade when Brocade acquired McData back in 2007. These SAN switches and others were marketed using an OEM/reseller model and HP was one of them along with others. So, this switch may still be under and support contract with either Brocade or via one of the OEMs or resellers. If that is the case, then the firmware may be downloaded from whomever the support contract is with. I'm sorry if this seems very complicated but I wanted to explain why it might come from HP or from others depending on the relationship the switch came from.

Would anyone still have a support contract for a six-year-old network switch? I wonder whether there is any coal available to fuel something that old.

These switches are available on eBay for less than $100. If you forget the password, you can just buy another one.

Yeah, I know these are very old and so my answer probably doesn't make much sense but I really don't of any other way to officially get the firmware.

I googled most of your description and it appears that HP now own that product line. There appear to be updates available on the HP support site.
