Sounds like the GPU is after failing (or the motherboard). Honestly, not worth repairing, as either problem will involve replacing the motherboard, which is dearer than a new laptop (unless you can salvage one from somewhere).

Hope this helps.

I have a sony vaio sz120p and the sceen went dead. I narrowed it down to the video card being blown. It is a Nvidea go 7400. I need to know if this is an MXM board and what size. and also if replacing the...

The motherboard will be a sony board. They do not use outside manufacturers for those. The video card is part of the motherboard so you have to replace the entire board.

Before you go replacing boards or junking it have you checked to see if the problem is the back light or back light invertor board? That is far more common than a actual failure with the video section. You can do a few simple checks. First turn on the vaio and look close at the screen if you see a ghost image that looks like your windows screens (It should move etc) then your back light is out or the inverter board which powers it is. The other thing to try is plugging a monitor into the laptop. You may have t o enable it by hitting FN-F7 I think on the Vaio to switch to the external monitor unless it is set to auto. The proper key will have a little monitor icon on it. This will test your video section. If the external works the problem is the back light again and the video section is fine.A back light is under $50 in part to replace. A motherboard for some Vaios will hit $350 even from a third party parts place.

I've repaired Toshiba and Sony laptops for several years now and could count the dead video on one hand with a few left over fingers. It really is uncommon to say the least. A back light is one of the most common failure for any lcd type device, laptops being no exception.

Sounds like the power supply in the external case has gone bad (or going bad)...

If you have another external case, AND the drive itself is not damaged, you can move the drive to an external case.. Alternately, depending on the connection (IDE/SATA) you can move the drive internally to your computer.

Some keys in the keyboard not working

Hello
The easist way and cheapest is to buy a exernal keyboard for your laptop. The keyboard is broken and you cant repair it, to buy a new laptop keyboard it very expensive.

The cd driver is also very expensive to buy, so I suggest that you buy a external one with dvd and everything.

Also check if the "CD" that the drive doesent read is DVD media.? CD drivers cant read DVD media, then you need to have a DVD driver.

Computer doesn't recognize my external HD

Test the HD on a different computer, if you get same problem, then the disk can be faulty. Backup your data ASAP, then replace either exernal hard disk enclosure, or the hard disk drive, depending on what is faulty.

If you get no problem on other computers, then the system is causing the problem. In that case try doing a system restore to a recent date before the problem started. If that does not work, then you will have to reinstall the system.

The screen is still not responding

To test if in fact it is your video card... try plugging an external monitor into your laptop... If You Get a clear screen No Lines or colors etc.... then it's not your video card..

Lines are common with A faulty circuit board on the display panel, So You Might Need To Replace LCD Display if the exernal test shows your video card is good...
