If you would like for me to look at your problem, I have access to a remote control program. I would be willing to look at your system a little closer to try and figure out your issue. It's a one time access, but it maybe easier than the back and forth. Reboot your system and then connect your camera again. Make sure your camera is not connected while you install the driver. Let me know how it turns out.

It could be, what is the operating system that you are running on your system? Does the application start fine, or do you get a warning or error? It could be, what is the operating system that you are running on your system? Does the application start fine, or do you get a warning or error?

First, I would suggest installing the software program that comes with the camcorder. VideoCam Suite. Here is a link so you can update the software for Windows 8. Click Here Then connect your camcorder with the USB cable and upload to program.
Please download your software in this web :
http://www.userdrivers.com/Camcorder/Panasonic-SDR-H40-H60-Camcorder-VideoCam-Suite-1-0-L021-Software-Update-for-Windows-XP-Vista/address
This is a huge download...Nearly 300MB. Do not even attempt it if you do not have broadband. (DSL or Cable)
I have not used this site so its satisfaction is not guaranteed. There are other links on this site to scan your computer. They may be legit, but I wouldn't do it.
The only other recourse would be to contact Panasonic for a new CD which they will no doubt charge you for. If you should decide to do that the customer service number is 1-800-211-7262.
I hope you have WIN XP on your computer. Windows XP has 3 versions of service pack (SP) available. SP1, SP2 and SP3. For more information on obtaining SP, please refer: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322389
Following is the direct link for downloading SP3 http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=68C48DAD-BC34-40BE-8D85-6BB4F56F5110&displaylang=en
NB: SP is a huge file and will take long time depending on the speed of your internet connection. SP2 download would fail in 'dial up' internet connection. Also installation of SP will take a long time, depending on the configuration and the performance of your system
For the VideoCam Suite 1.0 (software) that comes with the camcorder requires Microsoft Windows xp professional service pack 2 but I have service pack 3. How do I transfer from the videocam to my PC?

I'd like for you to install this driver first:

Reboot your system and then connect your camera again. Make sure your camera is not connected while you install the driver. Let me know how it turns out.
