My PIXMA MP500 won't print. All appears normal when I send a print command. THere are no error codes from either the MP500 or my laptop (Win7 Pro). My laptop indicates the printer is ready and when I initiate a print request, my laptop says, "This document was sent to the printer." I will also see the message, "Printing From PC" on the MP500 LCD window for between a half second to about 10 seconds then it disappears and nothing happens after that. It usually then begins to print. I've tried switching usb cables and performing a manual reset per the service manual (http://tricks-collections.com/manual-reset%C2%A0canon-mp500/). All other maintenance actions work fine, aligning and cleaning the head, nozzle check, bottom plate cleaning, etc. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Due to the fact that no error messages appear and the print job reaches the printer, I believe that the formatter board is faulty. If this is the case ( and it is 90% of the time ) the most economical thing to do is purchase another printer.

Col Johnson, Thank you so much for your time to provide your opinion and recommendation. Do you know the part number of the "formatter board" you mentioned? There is someone on ebay selling their unit for parts and if that he will sell that board for cheap enough, it would be worth it to try and fix this wonderful printer. Thanks again!

Sorry but I dont know the part number but the board in question is the one that the USB Cable plugs into. Before purchasing the other printer on Ebay I would establish what was wrong with it first. You dont want to buy the same problem.

Hi it's Gill again. I've been looking around more on the net and I think the problem is our printers need new printheads which I'm told are spare parts easy to change. Hope this helps. Gill

SOURCE: Canon pixma mp530 not printing

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Canon pixma all in one mp500 error code 6A00

6A00 is a problem with the sheet feed unit.
Manually move the print head left and right, and turn the printer on/off. I would also inspect the rollers for ANY debris... it can often be fixed by using "canned air" and blowing the interior out completely.

All of a sudden my MP500 gives an error code

If the carriage will come out of the right corner, you need to look inside and see if there's a paper scrap or anything blocking the purge assembly. The purge is the unit that cleans the printhead, and that error says it's not moving properly. If nothing is stuck in there, you will need to have the purge assembly replaced.

Canon Pixma MP500 UO71 error

I am also getting this error message. For a few days I could take out the offending cartridge and the printer would forget for one printing and then go back to telling me that two of the same cartridges were installed. HELP! I am about to chuck it out the window, though I believe CANON should send us all new ones.
