Open up your application window. Find the app you want to restore the shortcut to, and then drag the app icon to your tray at the bottom of the screen.
Follow this procedure for any/all apps that have disappeared from the Lauchpad tray (menubar).

Unable to find startup file boot.efi

see if you can boot holding the command key (next to the space bar) and "s"; once booted to this text only single user mode, type "fsck -f" and enter; this is unlikely to work (as it also needs boot.efi), so you'll need to use your OS DVD or USB memory stick, boot holding option key (next to command key) and pick that device, then run Disk Utility (may have to go to the Tools menu), select your hard drive, and click the repair disk permissions button

you may also need to just install the OS again (assuming you were tinkering with things you shouldn't have, otherwise, your hard drive might be failing)

Automator Basics
The Apple Automator application allows Mac OS users to automate the repetitive computer tasks by creating a workflow. A workflow is a series of actions that will be executed one after the other when executed. An action is the simplest unit of the Automator like Copy to Clipboard By combining actions from different applications in the drag and drop interface of the Automator, you can create your own applications and plug ins. Here is how it works.
  1. Open Automator.app from the Applications folder.
  2. You will see 4 panes: Library, Action and Help on the left; the workflow canvas on the right.
  3. You can search for actions by typing in the edit box located on the top left corner of the application.

  1. Press [Command] + [N] to create a new workflow.
  2. Select Finder in the Library list.
  3. Select Get Selected Finder items.
  4. Drag it to the workflow canvas on the right.
  5. Now select Mail application in the Library List.
  6. Select Get New Mail.
  7. Drag it to the right window, below the Get Selected Finder Items box.
  8. Select the Add Attachment to Front Message from the Action pane and drop it as the last action on the workflow.
  9. You have just completed your workflow.
  10. Click the Run button on the top left corner of the screen.
  11. The Mail app will pop up. Close it and go back to the Automator application
  12. Open File > Save as a Plug-in. Type a name for the Automator plug-in.
  13. Open the Finder window and click on a file that you would like to send as an email attachment.
  14. From the context menu([Ctrl] + click), select Automator and then choose the workflow you just created.
  15. If you have your mail account set-up, you just need to type in the details of who you want to send the message to. You can now send attachments directly from your Finder window.

How to put back the files coz i accidentally formated the files

Hi Phil, the first I suggest you to do is stopping using your MP3 play first. This action can avoid data overwritten. Now I will explain the details to you.
Sometimes formatting is just like deleting files, but actually no matter what action you've taken, the files are not really gone. A little complicated, right? Let me tell you in a simple way.
Like this, you put a file named "A" into your MP3 player, then you format your MP3 player or delete "A" from your MP3 player, the operating system will not really delete file "A"-it just frees up the space of file "A" so that the space can be used by any other new files you will put into the MP3 player in the future. Now if you put a new file named "B" into your MP3 player, "B" may probably take the space which was belonged to "A", this is data overwritten situation. If this happens, you may lose the chance of recovering your files. That's why I ask you to stop using your MP3 player.
Now you can start to search methods or apps on google to recover your files. But no matter what kind of methods or apps you are using, make sure they won't do harm to your "A" file (I mean they won't cause the data overwritten situation).
If you are using apps to recover your MP3 player files, you need to know that the apps can only be used on your computer. Here offer you two posts, you can see if it can help you or not. (I don't know what kind of computer OS you are using, Mac OS or Windows PC, so I offer you two post. Good luck.)

Hi. I turn on the mac and the screen says Mac OS X then there is Name and password. How can I get in to the main screen?

If you do not know the password for the user, you can reset it very easily:

  1. Start up from a Mac OS X Install disc (one whose version is closest to the version of Mac OS X installed). Usually, you can start from the disc by putting it in your computer, restarting, and holding the C key. Or, put it in the computer and click the Install or Restore icon you see in the disc's main window (after which the computer will start from the disc without you needing to hold C). Or, you can use Startup Manager or the Startup Disk preference pane to select the Install disc.
  2. Choose a language, click the arrow button to continue,
  3. Mac OS X v10.6 or later: Choose Password Reset from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.5 or v10.4: Choose Reset Password from the Utilities menu.
Mac OS X v10.3: Choose Reset Password from the Installer menu.

Tip: If you don't see this menu or menu choice, you're probably not started from the disc yet.

    Note
: The default keyboard layout is U.S. English while started from the installation disc. If you use a keyboard layout other than U.S English, use the Input menu (the flag icon on the right side of the menu bar) to select the desired layout before typing a new password.
  4. Select your Mac OS X hard disk volume.
  5. Select the user name of your original administrator account.

Important: Do not select "System Administrator (root)". This is actually the root user. You should not confuse it with a normal administrator account.

    ht1274_leopard.png
  6. Enter a new password.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Click the red button in the upper left corner to quit the application.
  9. Choose Quit Mac OS X Installer... from the Mac OS X Installer menu.
  10. Click Restart.

When I start up my mac, it doesn't go to start up ...

Restart your mac with the Mac oS disk in the drive and hold down the C key to launch the system on the disk. This will allow you to access the desktop on the OS disk.
In the menu bar, launch disk utility on the menu.
Do a disk permissions repair and also, you may need to remount the drive, but you shouldn't need to erase any data...
Then restart while holding the option key and choose the hard drive.

My mac recognizes the hard drive and shows the folders for my downloads but will not show the sub folders. It indicates that the amount of data that is stored is there. ? It's a 500g and indicates that...

Hi,

Sounds like the file structure on the drive is damaged. As resilient as mac file structure is it may have failed as a result of a hard shut down or disconnecting the drive while it was in use, possibly a previous failed attempt to eject.

With a logical failure like this recovery is generally fairly simple. You just need another drive(including the built in Mac OS drive) with enough space for your files and either a copy of Macdisk and PCTools file recover to perform the recovery on a PC or Iolo's Search & Recovery which you ca run on your Mac. The files may be recovered with generated file names, but iTunes should be able to sort through them and rename them in this case once you have them back.

For more info on either method of recovering check this FAQ:
