The Google Play error 491 has happened not only on ZTE devices, but also on Samsung, HTC, Nexus and other Android phone/tablet. The error makes it impossible for users to download, install, update apps or one specific app. Here are some tricks to fix Google Play error 491.

Why Does Google Play Error Code 491 Mean?
The Google Play error code 491 seems to come up from nowhere. Although there is no specific explanations for the error, there are some possible reasons that may cause the error 491 in Google Play on your Android phone:

  • The Google Play apps have corrupted data;
  • There is something wrong with your sign-in Google account;
  • There are some settings that are incompatible with Google Play app in your device.
No matter what the reason is, you can try to fix Google Play Store error 491 with following solutions.
How To Fix Google Play Error 491
When you see the error 491 on your Android phone or tablet, the first thing that you should do is to restart the device. Long press the power button to restart your phone or tablet. In some cases, the error 491 would be gone after the phone or tablet reboots.
  1. Go to Settings > Apps/Applications;
  2. Scroll down to locate Google Play Service and Google Play Store;
  3. Choose Google Play Service/Google Play Store;
  4. Click Clear Data and Clear Cache.

Tip: If you have Google Service Framework installed on your Android device, you may want to clear its data and caches as well.
Now you can go back to Google Play Store and see if you can install or download apps/games. If the error 491 still persists after clearing Google Play Service and Google Play Store caches & data, move on to the next trick.
You can uninstall updates for Google Play Store and Google Play Service to fix the error.
  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Uninstall Updates
  2. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Service > Uninstall Updates.
  3. You can then restart your device for the change to take effect.

If it is your Google account that cause the error 491, you can fix the error by removing Google account from your Android phone/tablet. Then after restarting your device, you can add the account back and see if you can normally download, install, update apps/games in Google Play Store.
  1. Go to the Settings > Accounts;
  2. Choose your Google Account and select "Remove Account";
  3. After the account has been removed from your device, reboot the device;
  4. Once the device restarts, go to Settings > Account to add your Google account back.

Many users has fixed the error 491 after the above steps. And for some users, the error code 491 is gone when they switch to a new Google account.
If the error code 491 still shows up, reset app preference on your Android device in the following steps:
  1. Go to Settings > App/Applications;
  2. Tap three dot icon and choose Reset app preferences;
  3. Tap Reset Apps.

This will reset preferences for your apps but will not wipe out any of your phone data.
If you have set up proxy/port in a APN, deleting the APN could help to stop the error 491.
  1. Go to Settings > Network Connection > > More networks > Mobile networks;
  2. Click Access Point Names;
  3. Tap the access points and check if they have proxy/port set;
  4. If the proxy/port is set, delete the APN.

Firstly, enable downloading apps from Internet:
  1. Go to Settings > Security.
  2. Toggle on the button of Unknown source.
  3. This will enable the device to install apps that are downloaded outside of Google Play Store.

Then download Google Play Store APK from Internet and install the app on your device.
If the above methods fail to fix the error 491, you can try factory resetting your Android phone/tablet. The reset will delete all data and settings on your device, therefore, it is important to make a full backup of your device before the reset.
  1. Backup your phone/tablet;
  2. Go to Settings > Backup & Reset;
  3. Tap Factory data reset.

Try to download istation and comes up with error 491

You will need to do the following:
  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Apps
  3. Scroll down to Google Play Services and open it
  4. Clear data and cache
  5. Do the same thing for the Google Play Store
  6. Restart your phone
  7. Open Google Play Store, let it sync, and you should be able to download whatever app was giving you error 491

Error code 491 on my tablet ZTE K88

Clear Cache and Data in Google Play Store App:
This should be done from the System Settings by ust following the steps given below. Make sure that before you go and do this step you have to Turn off Google play updates from the Play Store app. Open Paly Store and tap on the 3 dots option icon on the right or left side top of the screena nd from the list of options turn it off.
  1. Go to System Settings on your android device which is Gear shaped icon -> Tap on Application Manager or Apps in the list of options -> Then Open "All" apps
  2. From the List of Apps available in the All apps search for the Google Play Store App and Tap on it which will open a new window.
  3. You should click on the Clear Cache button and Clear Data button as shown in the image below.
  4. Now Restart or reboot your device and try to install or update the apps which will most probably solve the problem. If you are still facing the same error and problem follow the next step.

Why cant i downdload apps free

Mate same with me, I tried to uninstall some of my google factory settings but my phone wouldn't let me so I stopped them from updating and after a while I started getting an error code 491 when I tried downloading apps from google play store. I googled 491 and found this link that showed me how to fix it, If it starts happening again then just repeat this link....CHEERS..

I would check with service provider , sounds like possibly your phone does not allow that.

How do i solve the APP Error 523 on blackberry tour. I have no password set, i have the OS version 4.7 on the blackberry device. The device loads and shows the error APP Error 523 and reset. Upon reset it...

I had this same problem it was from a third party application that I had downloaded. Go to, and select support and search your APP error it will walk you through a guide on getting it fixed--although your phone will reset back to default.

Installing error code -106

I suggest go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add remove programs.
Check and see if the program is in list and remove it. While in control panel go to system/Device Drivers check non have a yellow mark on them if so reinstall drivers or upgrade Reboot and try again.
