Try filling with tap water and allow water to freeze. Once the water freezes and ice dumps into ice bin and water does not refill this will point to the dual water control valve. On the Model FRS6R5ESB0 that part is a Triple Water Control Click Here=> 241734301 Water Inlet Valve I will be here should you have questions but for now please try the tap water fill test and let me know how that turns out, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Good day.
Tough one if it works from time to time. Shut the water to the machine completely off and clean out the ice maker well.
Pour water into the well until near full. Wait 3 hours to see if it harvests normally. If it's a normal harvest, repeat the test 2 to 3 more times. If it acts normally on harvest, replace the water valve on the bottom back of he machine.
If it acts abnormally, then you will need to replace the ice maker, and the water valve should be replaced at the same time.

Note: The freezer temperature must be normal for this testing to work properly, and the water supply from the house must be strong. Extremely weak water to the machine from the house will unbalance the fill cycle because it is a straight time fill. 7 seconds, unlike a washing machine that fills to a specific level.

how is the food?is the ice cream getting soft? are you just having problems with the ice melting?you could have a bad water valve,water could be leaking past the valve,overflowing into the bin and will drip down,with the heater it's gonna work or not work when it should,there's a heater in the ice maker also

I don't recommend repair on this unit. Simple replacement. Try to find Ice maker kit @ local home depot or lowes that is same. You can buy whole kit for $50-$75.00.

the switch you push activates a couple of things. One is a solenoid that opens the door the other is a relay that moves the ice to the crusher.

Since you aren't hearing any sound....and are not getting any ice, I would suspect the switch is bad.....

But before you start taking things apart....try pushing it with your finger rather than a glass.

Check for the length of travel? can you feel or hear a switch click?

sounds like a defrost problem maytag has problems with the defrost thermostat use a hair dryer to melt the ice on the coils and see if the defrost thermostat is swelled up on the edge

Pull the filltube from out of the back check for ice inside, use warm water to melt.

can you pull the cover off the ice maker to see if the gears are bad?let me know more-mike

More than likely you've got an iced up evaporater. If you look in the lower section of the freezer on the back wall, is the wall frosty or icy looking? The only way to defrost this is by taking the back wall out of the freezer and using a hair dryer on it (being careful not to melt the plastic liner) or to just empty the whole thing and let it sit with the doors open for a few days. Be prepared for water to leak out from under it however as the ice melts and overflows the drain tray in the bottom of the fridge. Good Luck!
