Downloading

Your computer is full of potential free ringtones for your Samsung T229 (also known as Samsung SGH-t229, T-mobile t229) :
By Bluetooth:
The Samsung t229 is Bluetooth-enabled. Bluetooth is a wireless system which lets you connect your cell phone to computers, headsets, car kits, etc. If your computer is also Bluetooth-enabled, simply establish a connection between both devices and transfer your music files from your computer to your Samsung t229.
Simply record sound directly:
Since your Samsung t229 has a sound recorder (also known as "voice memo"), a very simple technique involves simply placing your phone near your computer's speakers, playing whatever music or sound you would like as a ringtone, and recording it -- you can even use your voice, your child's voice or even your cat's "meow!" Record it with your mobile and there you go! Unless that function was specifically blocked on the Samsung t229, you should be able to navigate to the ringtones section and choose your new recording as a ringtone. Of course, the quality will not be ideal but, after all, it's free!

L700 model - want to change message tone which I

Hi buddy!! Samsung sgh-l700 also supports other message tones. But to utilize it you must convert the required tone into MIDI format. You can do this with this software- "MP3 to Ringtone Gold".

There are supposed to be 64 ringtones on my sgh

if you had downloaded them then they could be in the music or sounds folder of 'my files'.

if not, the sgh G600 actually comes with much less ringtones
[providers of the phone often provide conflicting information as to the phone's spec.]

there are a few if you go into:

Menu;
Settings;
Phone Settings;
Phone Profiles;
'Normal';

Then on 'Incoming Calls' scroll down to 'Voice Call ringtone' and select it.
In this section there are 10 ringtones.

If you want to change message tones:

Phone Profiles;
Normal;
scroll to the right so you are in the 'New Messages' tab.

To change the alert tone, scroll down to 'Message alert tone' and select. Here there are only a few message tones.

hopefully that solved the issue.

:-)

I would like to change text message ring tone but can only find how to change ringtone and not for text messages

I found the answer!! Go to Menu>Settings>Profiles, then go to Options>Edit. Push the right side of the square (that you use to navigate the menus) so that you're working with New Messages, not Incoming Call. Go down to Message Alert Tone, then go to Options>Change>Use Effect Tone. If you were trying to use an .mmf that you downloaded, or any of the preloaded ones that can be used as incoming call ringtones, you'd go to Use My Alert Tone here. There are 4 tones under Use Effect Tone, and you can play them and choose one, just like you do to play and choose your ringtone.

Set a ringtone for a text message SYNC SGH-A707

"My Effect Tones" can only be MMF files. Ringtones can be WAV, MMF, MP3, etc... as long as the file is under 300kb I think. You need to convert your ring tones to MMF to use them as "Text Tones"
