SOURCE: How to Access Color Wheel on Toshiba 46HM95

I bought a used 46hm95 but it had a greenish "band" that streched from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. It was only noticeable on a white or light colored background, which is why I overlooked it when I tested out the TV.

I took out the bulb and shined a flashlight into the color wheel. I could see a fingerprint smudge on it. I took off the lower rear plastic panel. the rear is split into two section (the light engine is on the right. You'll have to unscrew a metal guard (three scerws), then disconnect the wires coming from the left section, and then unscrew the plastic guard that protects the lens. Then unscrew the light engine (two screws) and slide it out carefully (you don't have to take it completely out, just far enough to reach the screws to the color wheel covers). There are two covers protecting the color wheel, one plastic and one metal. Unscrew the plastic cover first than the four screws to the metal cover. I left the color wheel in place while I cleaned it with a microfiber cloth. I did pull the glass square in front of the color wheel and wiped that down too.

I put everything back together, and now the picture is perfect.

Things to remember are:
*Keep track of the screws and where they belong, as you remove them so you'll remember where they go when it's time to put things back together.
*Mark the wire connectors from any wire you disconnect in case you forget where they go.
*Be gentle with the color wheel and the glass square because they are fragile.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: replaced lamp in toshiba 46hm84. still get

Hi,do you hear any strange noises? If you hear clicking or like wanting to turn on it could be the board that powers the lamp it's called the ballast. Here's the instructions to replace it :http://www.fixyourdlp.com/guides/samsung/bp47-00033a.php The ballast is the most common failure besides the lamp. The ballast is the one that displays the lamp indicator if it's not able to power bulb or if bulb is not responding.Have a blessed one!

Why is my picture color distored color?????????

Your color is distorted because your color wheel is probably going bad. Try resetting all the picture values first. Sometimes they need to go back to normal when the lamp is changed. Lamps only provide white light and have no bearing on colors unless they are very dim. Also check your cables. a loose or bad cable can cause this as well. Lastly make sure your new lamp is made by Osram or Philips. knock offs wont work.

Hi,
You may have two problems with your TV. This TV has a history of a color wheel issue, was making grinding noise? Have you ever changed the lamp?
It may be a bad color wheel and the lamp, you may want to do a visual inspection.
It is easy to replace the lamp but more likely the color wheel is the problem.
The part# for the color wheel is 212184, the part# for the lamp is 260962

Best of luck

MY SAMSUNG DLP MN HLP6163W PICUTURE HAS FADED

If you have had this unit for awhile it could just be the lamp. If the image does'nt brighten up you may have an issue with the light path. The color wheel produces the color. If there was an issue with the color wheel you would most likely have a black and white image.

When I turn the tv on It makes an awful high pitched sqeeling sound for about 5 secs then silence then back again. Its a pattern. No Picture and lamp isn't coming on. Im thinking the lamp is trying to come...

Have the color wheel replaced on this unit, The high squeal is the color wheel bearings gone bad. Fortunely on this unit it can be replaced with out purchasing a entire optics engine assembly. The unit will not ignite the lamp until the color wheel has gotten to a pre-determined speed. Around 9600rmp, if it does'nt then the ballast will not get the signal all is well and ignite the lamp.

Ballast or color wheel next?

The color wheel will normally spin-up even for a brief moment when the set is powered up. I have not seen a color wheel go out with a lamp. I have seen a ballast go bad with a lamp. I would replace the ballast first. You did not state wheather the color wheel was noisy or not. On the Samsung DLP, the color wheel is normally very noisy before it is gone. I hope this will help you.
