Maytag MAV6200AWW does not spin

My washer (Maytag MAV6200AWW) washes fine, fills, agitates, drains, etc EXCEPT it does not spin dry. It sounds like it spins but it does not actually spin. Any ideas? Should I have it looked at by a tech?

I believe it is the thrust bearing. When the lid switch is engaged with the lid raised, I cannot manually spin the inside while in the spin cycle. And the agitation works fine. I suppose I will open it up and take a look.
    Thank you

Be sure to check inside basket very carefully to make sure no loose nails or screws or drill bits etc that were left in a pocket are sticking through a hole in the basket and locking it to tub. This is common. If that is not the problem, one of three things has happened. 1 The thrust bearing that releases the brake has worn out. This is the most common and easiest thing to repair. If you tilt the machine back so you can look under it you will see the pulley that turns the transmission. When the pulley turns one direction it works the agitator, turn it the other direction and you should see it push the brake up that is directly above it. The thrust bearing kit includes the pulley and all bearings and washers to release brake. If you are mechanichal and can follow the directions that come with it, it is a fairly simple repair. 2 The brake lining has come apart and "stacked" itself in the brake housing. Replacing the brake is not hard, but there is about 200lbs of spring force pushing against the brake and housing that must be released slowly. I would recommend you call a technician for this just because I don't want anyone to get hurt trying to follow my directions on this repair. 3 An item of clothing has found its way between the basket and tub and has the basket bound up. This would mean removing agitator and basket. It is not likely this has happened, but I have seen it before.

I have a Maytag Atlantis washer that would wash but not spin, chothes wet after wash, I though it was the thrust bearing, even replaced the brake rotor and stator, the real problem was my transmition which I replaced my self. a big Job. I found out that if you remove the pulley and use the cam to turn the transmition counter clockwise and there is no resistance you have a bad transmition, about $175.00 at the partstore. com very helpful, also help from the repairclinic.com, It was a learning process for me ,did not have $500.00 to pay the authorized repairman, ripoff.hope some one can fix theirs, also help full videos on how to repair washer ,at A&C Appliance repair instructional videos, very helpful,

Washer wont agitate, pops breaker

Could be the gears/transmission for the agitate cycle are jammed, the motor then freezers, creates an overload and the breaker pops.

I have a Maytag Atlantis MAV6200AWW Washer agitates and spins. Water sometimes empties. Pump is fine spins freely and the impeller is fine. Could it be the belt ?

You will need to check for an article of clothing stuck between the basket and tub that may be partially blocking the drain hole.

Maytag Atlantis Washer - MAV6200AWW will fill and spin, but wont agitate. Also lost the bolt going down into the agitator. Anyone know what size it would be?

bolt has 1/2inch head but dont know the thread size is an orderable part 3 to 5 dollors, may not agitate since agitator not on shft to turn

Washer doesn't agitate

sounds like your washer went mellow on you(doesn't get agitated, right)?

ok. enough humor.

sounds like there's a problem with the motor/belt/control board in that order
