Dell Axim x51 will not connect to system

I have a Dell Axim that I sync with my Vista PC at home via the Windows Mobile Device Center and at work via Active Sync 5.0. At home I use a cradle and at work a sync cable. I did not put my PDA in the cradle this past weekend and when put it in on Monday, it would not connect. It would also not connect at work. I finally had to take the battery out long enough for it to essentially hard reset at which point it re-synced. As soon as I take it out of the cradle, the problem reocurred. I have updated the Windows Mobile Device software and am using the most current of ActivSync. There don't appear to be any driver updates on the Dell site. Thank you.

I have a Axim X51V that uses windows XP & I have a new Laptop that uses windows Vista. I have loaded the active sync disc so that I can sync the two devices, but this doesn't happen. Is this because of the XP & Vista systems not working together ? How can I solve this issue ? Do I need some sort of Driver ?

same problem - can't get my Axim to sync with my desktop XP computer.

Same issue. X51v won't sync and was doing fine for almost a year. Now, it won't. Taking the battery out seems to have worked but it may be a short-term fix. A more in-depth answer from someone who better knows the hardware would be nice.

The only resolution I found for this problem for now is taking the battery out of the Axim.

Windows vista uses its own sync software, which is available on the windows marketplace
if your vista is original you can upgrade to this software
if you use xp version, just keep using the usual active sync

Does not recognize my connection for active sync

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50 and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to a computer using a sync cable.
  1. p 1 The Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PCmag-glass_10x10.gif Companion CD.
  2. Step 2 The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
  3. Step 3 Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.
  4. Step 4 Check the PDA. If the PDA is not properly cabled to the computer, you will get the following message: “Connect your device to a computer using a sync cable or cradle before running the system update. Ensure that ActiveSync is installed on the computer and that the ActiveSync connection is successful.”
  5. Step 5 Ensure that the Dell logo faces upward.
  6. Step 6 Use the sync cable to set up a partnership, which can be done multiple times when you sign in as a guest.

Windows Vista will not recognize dell axim X3

I have had that problem with other USB devices i suggest trying a different USB port as the USB port you have used to connect the X3 to is most likely malfunctioning.

Software

If you are using Windows XP, you can download Acivesync 4.5 from Microsoft's website, and by this software you can connect your PDA to your laptop (You'll need Windows Mobile Device Center if you're using Windows Vista).
Note: Most probably you won't need the PDA's CD, when XP detects the USB device, if it asks for, point it to C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Drivers and it should install perfectly. But normally Both XP and Vista can recognize Dell Axim PDAs.

Need to find Active-sync program for Dell Axim 51V

I believe Active Sync has been replaced by Windows Mobile Device Center for Vista. I'm not using my Axim any longer but was able to sync it using Windows Mobile Device Center. You should be able to download at :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-download.mspx

Hope this helps.

Lost CD Rom for my Axim x30. Anywhere I can download it?

You need ActiveSync from Microsoft. Unless you're using Vista which uses Windows Mobile Device Center. Connecting to the Axim to a Vista machine should automatically download the Windows Mobile Device Center software.

ActiveSync for XP and older systems can be downloaded here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-synch.mspx

You'll proabbly still want to update your Axim's firmware and drivers if possible.

Good luck!
