Polaris 2006 550 Classic starting problem

My sled will not start using the electric starter. I can manually start it using the old pull roll. When I use the key to start it I hear a thump sound each time I turn the key. The sound is coming from a small black electrical part next to the battery. A switch or solenoid?????? The starter motor doesn't even have a chance to start the motor. Just hear the "thump."

try bypassing the kill switch and the ignition switch. Often the switches fail before the other components. the ignition can usually be bypasses by simply unplugging it from the harness. You may have to loop the wires to bypass the kill switch.

SOURCE: My 2007 polaris 450 sportsman used to start with the pull start 2nd pull, now it starts for a couple seconds and stalls ,does this three or 4 x then starts and runs fine,by the way it won't start with

Could be time to replace battery, this is most likely the culprit. These fourwheelers are very picky when it comes to low power. Your starter is also most likely just fine, the clicking you hear is the solenoid on the starter, so your battery has some juice, but not enough amps to turn over the starter. Also If the fourwheeler has sat for a long time then you may just need to charge the battery. The 2007 is most likely fuel inject which uses even more fuel when running and it also has its own computer kind of like a PCM in a car or truck. These all need a good supply of power and the stator which is like an alternator usually needs the help of a fully charged battery to keep everything running properly. Also note, once you get a new battery or charge it in some cases the ATV should run smoother.

Having problems with my 2005 polaris sportsman 4x4 400cc ATV. Electric start wont work. Thought it may have been the magnetic switch for the starter but nothing seems to have changed. When i turn the key...

try jumping the two posts on the solenoid near the battery with key on , then try to start , if it starts or turns over it needs a solenoid, or the bendix is hanging up on the flywheel, had the same problem and took off my recoil cover and found teeth on bendix all chewed up and stuck on flywheel. try to pull the recoil start first and see if that releases bendix, if not remove recoil cover for inspection,or your starter is bad, if it sounded like an old dodge starting up prior to it not starting , its probably the bendix

I have a polaris 2009 600 IQ shift snowmobile that I would like to put a 12 volt dc plug on for my GPS. I got a outlet from polaris and I found the acc plug on the sled.I do not have electric start so...

I Have a 2010 Polaris Shift (with No electric start) and over the clutch on the left side (sitting on the sled) is a bunch of plugs, one with 4 wires.. and a longer plug with even more wires.... The One with 4 wires has a Yellow wire that produces about 10V AC, which is a good tap for a electric shield. The Longer plug has a solid Red wire which produces around 13.5V DC, which is a good tap for your 12V Plug. Connect your positive to the red wire and your ground to the brown wire (also your ground can be securely attached to your frame by a nut located just above your plugs on the frame) and your good to go!.. with the 2010 shift you don't need a battery for it to produce DC voltage.
