When I turn my Kenmore (417.99175100) washing machine on, the tub fills with water, then it starts to make a humming noise and stops. The machine does not agitate or anything. The humming noise seems to be coming from the bottom motor area of the machine. If I turn the knob to the Rinse & Spin cycle, the machine completes the water filling cycle, then it starts making a humming noise and completly stops. It will not go on to the next step.
The drum turns very easily counterclockwise but I cant turn it clockwise; is this normal? Does this sound like a motor issue, or can it be something like the timer switch or transmission. Could this be something as simple as a lid switch? I disconnected the belt from the motor to the transmission and still the same happened. The machine completes the water cycle, then makes a humming noise and stops. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The problem is the pressure switch has failed or the hose is plugged up, has a hole in it. These are usually inexpensive and are very easy to replace. Here is a video this will walk you thru testing and replacing a pressure switch. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. All parts come with installation instructions. Not all models are available.
The inner tub on some machines does rotate very slowly while filling to assist with the even distibution of the load. If the agitator is turning back & forth while in fill mode, you could have a timer or transmission problem. You need a tech.
