Look on the face plate for a really small hole. Put the tip of a pen in the hole and hold it for a few seconds. Your system should then re-set. If the Protect signal keeps coming on, take it to the dealer to make sure your stereo is wired properly....hope this helps

Disconnecting the terminal will take to much time.. In between the skip button ,and the #1 on your stereo there is a little dot. Barely noticable unless you know what your looking for, take a safety pin or a screw( anything with a little tip) and push it in. This will restart your stereo. (Car Must be on)

SOURCE: Protect mode Kenwood KDC MP438U in dash reciever

Anytime there is a short circuit or your battery down low enough you will recieve this signal. If you press the little "reset button" using a small pin or screwdriver your unit should reboot without the "PROTECT" signal. If seeing this "PROTECT" sign is a result of jumping your car, this will fix it. If the signal persists, then there is still a short circuit and you need to check your connection with the battery. Most likely it is touching the chasis or some othere metal.

SOURCE: My Kenwood car stereo keep falshing the word "Protect" how to fix

in front of your #1 preset button there is a reset button push it with a pin. if you made a pass # put it in if not page 12 show you how to make one if you want. reseting it should make it work if it dont you have a short somewhere start from scratch buy taking it out. I suggest you dont make a password till the short is gone. Mine did the same thing but because i was pulling to much power on starting my car with my amps.

Kenwood car stereo is displaying Protect and wont come on

If ur kenwood stereo is going into protect mode, it is because one of ur speaker wires is shorting out. Make sure all of ur speaker wire connections are good, and then wrap them so they aren't grounding out against the chassis. This should solve ur problem.

MY KENWOOD CAR CD PLAYER IS SAYING PROTECT??

Hi,

Kenwood head units show "protect" when there's a problem with the speaker outputs. This might mean a shorted speaker wire, a blown speaker, or an internal defect in the head unit. Once the condition that's causing the "protect" mode is fixed, the CD player should be back in normal mode the next time you turn it on.

If it's staying in "protect", then you'll definitely have to remove the stereo and do some troubleshooting to fix it. Many car audio stores will do system troubleshooting, for a fee. If you want to do it yourself, here's what you need to do:

Pull the Kenwood unit from the dash and disconnect all the speaker wires. Turn it on and see if the "protect" message displays. If it does, the stereo has an internal defect and will need to be serviced. If it doesn't, then turn it off, and re-connect one speaker. Turn it on again and see if it displays "protect".

If it works with a single speaker connected, keep re-connecting the others until you identify the speaker that's causing the problem. There may be a wiring problem or defective speaker in that location.

If it displays "protect" with a single speaker connected, then disconnect that one and try a different one. If all the speakers cause a "protect" mode, then you're probably back to a defective head unit, unless your friend managed to blow all your speakers at once.

Thanks,

Security Code for Protect mode

Turn on the car so the radio is flashing "Protect." Look on the front / removable face of the stereo. On it you will find a small round hole - that's a reset button. Find a small paper clip, unfold the clip and stick it gently into the hole. The "Protect" will stop flashing, and Kenwood will be displayed. Unfortunately all your settings/presets will be gone, but at least the stereo is working again!
