When the DC filter caps no longer filter out high frequency AC, that AC will be fed through out the circuits and cause damages such as the inverter frequency will be running at the wrong frequency and caused overheating.
The service manual does not show the sch of the power supply/inverter board because it is not designed by Viewsonic.

I replace the surface mounted fuse with axial-lead fuse, PICO fuse made by LITTLEFUSE. You can try using a 1 Ohms 1/2 watt flame proof resistor in place of the fuse, if the resistor get real hot and burnt up then it may have shorted Transistors or transformer. You can get the number of the board and go to www.lcdparts.net to see if he has the inverter board in stock.

What is th part no for the inverter? viewsonic says the monitor is obsolete.

You need to open it up and look for the make and P/N as printed on the board since same model can have more than one version of he inverter board, then you can go here to see if they will have one in stock or contact them:
www.lcdparts.net they seel a lot of replacement inverter boards.
