Please provide the number of beeps and the frequency they occur. Incidate whether they are long or short or a combination of both.
Once you know the sequence, download the manual for the make and model of the notebook. This should have the information needed to decipher the problem.
Multiple beeps while starting up is most of the time a message for a defect in the hardware. Try taking out some parts, put 1 by 1 back in and after placing 1 part, try to start up first. Thats an easy way to find the part thats defect. Most of the time its a dying ram. If you want to test the ram first, you can use the program Memtest 86+
Usually a beep can mean multiple things: if it is a pattern beep there is most likely bad ram stick(s). If it is ram issues you will not get anything on the screen If it is a beep and the screen powers on and shows anything like the BOIS text or windows startup you most likely have a key on your keyboard that is stuck so its down. Search for any sticky keys
For the Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 Netbook, 7 beeps indicates bad memory (system RAM). The memory will need to be replaced.
The RAM can be replaced using a small Phillips screwdriver and removing the back-plate on the bottom of the laptop. When you see the memory (sticks around 3 inches long), pull those out and put new ones in. Make sure it's the correct DDR2 memory.
Good luck!
