Question about Samsung WB550 Digital Camera

1 Answer

My computer will not recognise the download cable any more. Says USB has malfunctioned device not found.

I can charge my camera using the supplied USB connection cable, but cannot download photos to my computer using the Samsung cable. A message comes up that a USB Device has malfunctiond. Do I need to buy a new cable from Samsung? I have 4 USB ports on my computer and none will recognise my camera. I have had no trouble for the previous 2 years.

SOURCE: windows doesn's recognize camera, device manager says no driver

Hi -

Have you tried another USB port? Sometimes, they can act goofy.
Also be sure your anti-virus isn't blocking any part of the installation.

Here is a link to the Samsung troubleshooting guide for your camera.
You can probably download the most recent driver from that website as well.
Perhaps they have a better or newer version than what came prepackaged
with the camera (just because a camera is a new purchase does not mean
the software it came with is the most updated).

I run WinXP home edition, so I am not familiar if there are any differences in the professional version regarding software installation....

Good luck!

Will it work on another computer? If so, it's probably a corrupt driver. If the camera is working fine, you may want to just use a memory card reader instead. They are inexpensive and read pictures faster than the camera itself. It is an extra step to remove the card each time but is less than a new camera.

I cannot get my camera to turn on

Before you can download pictures to your computer, you have to install the software that came with the camera. On older operating systems, on the CD will be the driver you need, so the OS recognises what you are connecting to the USB connector. From Windows 7 and up, the driver will be in the OS and the computer will recognise the camera, after you with it on. But be aware as long as the USB cable is in the camera, you won't see a thing on the camera. Lots of camera's ar also charged through the USB connector, so unless the camera gets a signal you are connected to the computer, it won't start communicating, so it looks like nothing is connected.

If the camera won't turn on, after you pulled out the usb cable (from the camera) please first charge the battery first.
Then try again.

Why won't mu usb cord work for downloading pictures

Here is one possible solution. Some devices require that you use the USB cable that came with the device. Other USB cords won't work. This happened on a Nexus tablet I bought recently. When I tried to charge it with another USB cord, nothing happened. I had to use the exact USB cord that came with the tablet, even though both cords looked identical.

When I try to download photos from my S2700 to my computer, via a USB, the computer does not recognise the camera and the charging light flashes rapidly when the cable is attached and camera turns its

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( ).

Olympus vg 170

To make it possible, to point out where the problem is, you could try some rings.
Try to charge the camera with an external power supply. If you have it, the F-2AC from Olympus.
If that also does not charge, you could try to replace the USB cable.
But if the camera starts charging, you have to look for the USB connector in the computer. Be aware, in some computers the power, delivered from a USB connector, should be capable of giving 5 volt and 500 mA. Sometimes internally the computer is not correct wired, and won't give the 5 volt at all. Special when you hav build the computer yourself, you can check inside the computer. BUT ONLY when is sure the camera can charge via an external USB charger.

Then you could check if nothing is wrong in the camera. All contacts, on battery and in the camera, should be clean and shiny. You could clean contacts with a dry cloth. Never use sharp tools.
Also check the USB connector on the camera, if no debris is in the connector, or no contact is bent or has corrosion on it.

Hi I have the vivitar vivicam 8025 dont have my manual want to know how to charge my battery

First off, you can download a PDF version of the manual from the manufacturer at:
If you don't have a PDF viewer, you can download one from: (just click download under the free version)
For your convenience I've pasted the relevant information about charging the batteries from the above manual:
Please charge the battery as below 2 methods: A. Charge with USB cable Insert the lithium battery into your camera correctly, and connect your camera to computer with USB cable. The red LED of camera will be light on indicating that your camera is in charging status, the LED willbe off when charge full.
B. Charge with supplied charger Your camera is supplied a compatible charger for you, you are only required to put the battery into charger and charge the lithium battery directly from electrical outlet

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

If your connecting the camera via the usb cable you will need the drivers for the camera to be recognised by the pc. Do you have the disk that came with it? If not, try here and download the easy share software.

Computer won't recognise camera to download images

** Problem Solved **

I found it wasn't the camera entirely to blame. I tried another USB cable on another pc, and although the camera was doing the same thing as my problem, the computer recognised the camera as new hardware, and asked me how to access the pictures. So I was able to get the pictures from the camera to the computer, and then saved them on to my Kingston flash drive. So taking the flash drive to my daily PC, I plugged in my flash drive via a USB extension lead, and discovered that would read either... alarm bells rang. So I unplugged the lead, and put the flash drive straight into the computer direct. The computer recognised it immediately. So plugging in the extension lead again, and the flash drive, it read this now. So I tried the camera, and it recognised it.

So I don't know exactly what the problem was, but it was solved... saved me a lot of running around and money ;)
