I see there is a known fault admitted by Canon re the CCD connection failing in humid weather conditions. I live at the coast. I have worked in electronics and computers in the past and have some experience of taking gadgets apart to repair them. Is this a fault I might attempt to repair myself without risk to the camera?
Unfortunately the periods for free repair under the Canon Product Advisory have ended. Last one was the PowerShot A95 and that one ended July 31st, 2012. I have two affected cameras: A75 and S200. I think I will try to open them up and see if I can get to the faulty connector.
NO NO NO don't do it yourself, it's not worth the risk, and Canon may invalidate the recall (excuse me, advisory) for you. Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways.
