I have a Samsung SMH9187 microwave, that is just over 2 years old. The unit went dead couple of days back, no power at all, no clock, no keyboard power, no light. Checked the fuses - they are good. Two days back, I was frustrated and slapped the microwave on the side by the keyboard, and voila, it came to life. Worked perfectly fine, until I happened to close the door a but quickly today morning when the power went off again. I suspect a loose connection somewhere in the board under the keypad or somewhere there. How do I go about figuring out the loose connection?
Take the unit apart and carefully inspect the wires under the keypad...short of that..junk it and get a new one. It seems they just don't make things the way tey used to.

This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or a problem on the control panel.
Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

I have the same "SE" problem. After reading this thread here, I realise it's likely the keypad problem, which explains the microwave's behaviour (no key was working).
So there were two possibilities. (1)keypad failure and (2) bad connection.
Obviously the easiest thing I could start with is to clean the connection. So I first take the cover off. Behind the keypad is a circuit board. In addition to a few connections between the circuit board and other parts of the microwave, there is a ribbon connecting the keypad to the circuit board.
Loose the plastic on the connection, pull the ribbon out from the socket. I then used spirit to clean the exposed copper connections. Put every thing back to place.
Voila, it's working again and we have been living happily ever after.....

The keypad has a short in the membrane, which means the keypad control board will probably need to be replaced.
