Has it stopped completely or just slowed to a trickle. If a trickle you need to replace the filter. If stopped either the feed line to the fridge has been pinched/shut off or the internal line has frozen, or the valve is no longer functional.
You need to take a paper clip and clean the little holes where the water comes out on the left side (It's like a screen). Also you should pull the silver thing that adjusts to allow taller cups underneath up and down several times. You should do the latter every week. It helps get rid of some of the coffee grounds that block the aforementioned little holes.
You said, the ice maker slowly stopped working, decreasing in the amount of ice it
made until finally no ice at all. also, water trickles from water dispenser.
The first thing I would ask is when did you last change your water filter in the fridge? Or if it's an older fridge with an inline filter behind the fridge! check the shut off valve for the water line that leads to you ice maker. under the sink or in the basement or where ever the line comes from. I've seen where someone turned the valve a little clockwise unbeknown to the home owner and stopped or slowed the water flow.
The water line should be checked too, for any kinking that may be running behind the fridge or some unseen place!
