I am trying to change my NAT settings from strict to open so that I can play Xbox Live more efficiently, but I only want to change this on my xbox and not on my computer. Help? My connection says my nat type is strict and it can affect who I can connect with.

5) Goto the XBox Network Settings and IP Address Settings and select manual IP Settings and assign the following on your Xbox
IP Address :- 192.168.1.20, Subnet Mask :- 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway :- 192.168.1.1...
6) Also assign the DNS Addresses on the Xbox
Primary dns :- 4.2.2.2...Secondary dns :- 192.168.1.1
7) Turn off your modem, router, and Xbox...Wait for a minute...
8) Plug the modem power first, wait for another minute and plug the router power cable, wait another minute and turn on the Xbox and test it...it will connect...
Kudos! Thanks!

You need to use "Port Forwarding" if you are getting strict NAT warnings from xbox.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874
This short walk through from microsoft explains what ports you need to forward.
To get to the configs in your router you need to navigate a web browser to http://192.168.1.1
Once you are past the password screen, click on the "Application and Gaming" tab.
Fill in the necessary info, click the enable box and save the settings.
Restart your xbox and have fun gaming.

SOURCE: Change NAT to open
The ports should be opened only in the router not in the x.box, go to a working pc..
To
allow traffic from the internet to enter your local network, you will
need to open up ports or the router will block the request.
Because our routers use NAT (Network Address Translation), you
can only open a specific port or ports to one computer at a time. For
example: If you have 2 web servers on your network, you cannot open
port 80 to both computers. You will need to configure 1 of the web
servers to use port 81. Now you can open port 80 to the first computer
and then open port 81 to the other computer.
Step 1 Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your
D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password
(blank by default).
Step 2 Click on the Advanced tab at the top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.
Step 3 Check Enabled to activate entry.
Step 4 Enter a name for your virtual server entry.
Step 5 Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer on your local network that you want to allow the incoming service to.
Step 6 Choose Protocol Type - either TCP, UDP, or both. If you are not sure, select both.
Step 7 Enter the port information next to Private Port and Public Port.
The private and public ports are usually the same. The public port is
the port seen from the WAN side, and the private port is the port being
used by the application on the computer within your local network.
Step 8 Enter the Schedule information.
Step 9 Click Apply and then click Continue.

You need to do port forwarding on your router. First, you must setup a static IP address on your XBOX. Then You must open these ports on your router setup page using Port Forwarding feature. 80 TCP and UDP, 53 TCP and UDP, 3074 TCP and UDP.

Usually answered in minutes!
Will the nat stay open or will I have to do this each day?
I tried your solution Joed and my nat is moderate now. Better than strict but can I perm open it?
I also used portforward and it worked for awhile up until today.
