The 417 service manual is dated 2003, so they're no more than 7 years old.  You can download the operation & service manuals here:

My Rinnai 404 gas heater, is 27 yr old and works well. It's on bottled gas. Thinking of upgrading, the new Rinnai has a 6.2kW output. How does this compare to the 404 ? I can't find any specs.

The Rinnai 404 says it has
Input: NG, 17 MJ/h, TG 17 MJ/h Propane 17 MJ/h (15 MJ/h (Vic).
Let's work with propane at 17 MJ/h. https://www.manual-hub.com/manuals/rinnai-convector-404-01-pdf-manual
That's 4.72 kwh according to http://unitconversion.org/unit_converter/energy.html
But that's input. I don't know what the efficiency of the unit is, but let's assume 85%. 4.72 * 85%= 4.01 kwh output.

How do I clean inside my rinnai convector 417?

The owner's manual at http://rinnai.co.nz/tradesmart/upload/files/productfile/portable_convector_rce417_operation_and_installation.pdf on page 10 says to vacuum both filters weekly. It also warns not to wait for the filter lamp to come on since overheating may occur.

I have a Convector 417 RC-417-80 that starts fine but after about 5 minutes stops working. Any ideas?

Steve, there are a several of basic things that can cause this problem.

1. Air filter is clogged. Turn electrical part of unit OFF, Remove and Clean Filter, if necessary.

2. Air intake obstruction. Look for air intake obstruction around the front of the heater.

3. If your unit is a flue-less heater, Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) may be partially clogged with
dust, link or pet air. Clean Pilot Assembly using canned compressed air with a straw nozzle (like
you clean your computer with).

4. Gas pressure fluctuation to the heater. This will require a service call from an authorized Rinnai
Service Technician,

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Rinnai convector 516TR

Hi This is happening to us and I called Rinnai... they suggested that if anyone either in our apartment or an ajoining one has painted walls or varnished a floor that the convection heater picks up the smell and the only way to get rid of it is to burn it off by running the heater for several hours in a well ventalated room...

I am going to try it tomorrow.

will let you know
