The 1703fps has front face rim and back pannel black plastic parts with a silver plastic side ring inbetween. The back pannel is very difficult to remove from the silver side plastic but the front black plastic removes fairly easily from the silver sides. I always start working on the bottom where bruses won't show so much when it's reassembled, and this model I found that prying the front up & out worked. ( er was it the other way ? oh well) Anyway it fell apart after the stand & the four screws under the stand socket were removed.
I hope this helped somehow.

Kenm951, You may want to see some vids on YOUTUBE that show disassembly of LCD monitors. Some of the longer ones (8 to 12min) are ok, but audio leaves something to be desired. The big question to you is why would you even want to open up your monitor?????? Bye for now. I'm louie12fix on fixya

I've upgraded operating system to Vista and can't find drivers for Dell 1703FPs

Have you tried to download from Dell support site. Support.dell.com
Eventhough it doesn't list Vista as an option it should work. XP 1703FPs
driver should work on Vista.

I have a dell LCD model no 1703FPs monitor, whenever i power the screen its displays for about 4secs and turns black while the light indicator remains green indicating a video signal.

You may have bad backlight inverter board (shorted transistors, transformers, need test lamp to verify), or worst case the lamps assembly (need lamp tester to verify).
You can check and see if the power supply is putting out the 12vdc for the inverter board first and go from there.

If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Dell 1703FPs TFT Monitor

Had the same problem. You need only the front plastic frame decrease. Between the front side and the bottom Ramen is a small slit, then you can start and then carefully with the help of a Keils of the front frame. Beware! The rear frame is not resolved, this is at the corners with 4 screws on the side framework screw.
