Have tried re-programming and re-starting by taking batter out. No help, numerous attempts by re checking ringtones, volume, etc.
You must hard reset your phone !!
This is if you want to reset your phone back to factory settings, the way it was when you got it. This will erase everything on your phone.
Power OFF the handset
While OFF; Simultaneously press and hold the Volume Down, Camera, and
the Power keys for 10 seconds.
When the Android icon is displayed touch the Menu sensor key .
Scroll with the Volume Down key to "wipe data/factory reset" and press the
camera button.
Scroll with Volume Down key to: "Yes -- delete all user data" and press the
camera button.
When Data wipe is completed the option "Reboot system now" is
highlighted, press the camera key to reboot the device.

SOURCE: no ringtone - it only vibrates
Perhaps your volume is all the way down.Or on whats called "etiquette mode" Turn your volume all the way up, or if that doesn't work, press and hold your star key until you hear a chime.
SOURCE: w880i not ringing or message alert
Ok, Might seem like a daft question but is it on silent?
I'm guessing you chekced this already but it's easy to miss.
The first thing to check is whether it will make any sound at all - this is a good guide as to whether the speaker is broke or just settings are wrong. Being a Walkman phone you might have some tunes on it so see if they play. Do this through the walkman/media player feature as apposed to the ringtone area.
If they play then you know it's still working and some settings need changing. If not your speaker might be broken.
If the speaker works then you need to check the ringer volume. this can be done from MENU/SETTINGS/SOUNDS&ALERTS/RING VOLUME - this then needs to be set using left and right to go up and down.
After this is set test call the handset to see. If still no luck change the ringtone to another tone - something built into the handset preferably - might be a faulty tune. If still no luck check the the number calling the handset has not got any sound preferences - i.e. no tune when call received. If still no luck it might be broke...
hope this helps some what...
SOURCE: ring tone vs vibrate
There is no option to turn off the ringtone. You're not doing anything wrong. The only way to turn off the ringtone is to use the volume button to turn the sound off or to vibrate, or using the hot key (#) to go to "Vibrate Only Activated". I hope this explains what you wanted to know.
