You got a virus that designed to disable Norton. Do yourself a favour, uninstall Norton. Here a link to an excellent free piece of software for home users. Download it, install it, update it, schedule a boot-time scan, you wil be amazed by just how much it finds & it wont slow your system by being too labour intensive like symantec. http://www.avast.com/

How to enable auto Protect in Symantic anivirus 2006

want to turn on Auto-Protect permanently
1 Start Norton AntiVirus. If Norton AntiVirus is part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program. 2 Click Options. 3 In the left pane, click Auto-Protect. 4 In the right pane, check Enable Auto-Protect and Start Auto-Protect when Windows starts up (recommended). 5 Under "Select the duration," select Permanently from the drop-down menu. 6 Click OK. 7 Exit Norton AntiVirus. 8 Restart the computer.

Update problem with symantec antivirus

Close the antivirus program and reopen it. When it isclosed, the icon yellow for norton will not appear on bottom right hand side along with volume icon etc. You may also restart the computer to see id that helps. Right click the Norton icon and see id it says ENABLE AUTOPROTECT or DISABLE AUTOPROTECT. Try enabling.Try the same update after a while. If that does not work, try reinstalling Norton. I get 100s of viruses from 100s of friends and all sorts of things happen to me anti virus etc
but I am told that pretty normal

Symantec AntiVirus auto protect will not enable

Get rid of Norton AV. It not only is a resource hog but doesn't rate high as an AV solution. The Eastern European products such as Bit Defender and Kaspersky are rated much higher. There are two good free solutions such as Avast and Avira but they have to be updated manually instead of automatically

My problem is my auto-protect is turnt of and when i try to turn it back on it won't let me

First of all, restart the computer if you haven't. If that doesn't work, reinstall the program. If it still won't work, well let's wait until you've reinstalled to make any further recommendations.

My antivirus seems to be working against me!!!

Hello hawk893

Are you logged into a Windows profile w/ Administrator privileges?

If not, change your user profile rights to Administrator (from another Administrator profile).

If the problem persists, enter Safe Mode and try enabling and disabling NAV (Norton Antivirus) from there.

If the problem still persists, you may have picked up a virus that disabled your AV software. You can go HERE if you like to perform an online AV scan. There are other sites as well that will do this for you. Just perform a search engine search on "Online AV Scan".

If you need assistance w/ any of these recommendations, just let me know. I'll be happy to provide detailed instructions for you.

Please, let us know if this response was helpful for you or, of course, if you have more questions, etc. on this topic.

Thank you
BJ
