I have compaq tc4400 working for a couple of years and I have windows 7 and windows 8 dual boot. I mainly use win7 and two days ago after an AVIRA antivirus update that required restart, my compaq tc4400 forgot that it is a tablet. means there are no more tablet functions in the control panel and turning tablet pc components ON and OFF will not get it working. the tablet pc input service was set to manual and stopped which i returned to automatic and started. but even after restarting again and again won't make it tablet pc again. and it is not a hardware issue since i can use the tablet pc pen if i dual boot to windows 8 and it works fine. as expected. but windows 7 will not go back to being a tablet pc. please help as this is my bread and crumbs. thanks.

Testimonial: "this is windows 7 related issue. i am trying sfc scannow now. lets see if it helps"
HI,
HI, I got the pen working. sfc was no help, and the problem was ISD_tablet driver from WACOM. and i never thought that something that i installed later on Tablet PC, Just for pressure sensitivity controls can criple a basic function of the tablet PC. so anyways, i removed the driver, restarted then TC4400 was back to basic tabletpc functions, then i reinstalled the wacom driver and now everything seems ok. lets hope it stays working. cheers.

SOURCE: Tablet Keyboard not working
You may have a damaged (Physical) connection. If you know of someone with a tc1000 or tc1100 keyboard, try a swap to rule this in or out. The keyboards are interchangeable. I have several of both and have done this all the time.
Someone trying to "help you" close your "Laptop" could have damaged the connector at the Main board by trying to fold the tablet screen down like a laptop.
Might be a good time to clear static and reformat too. Cures a world of ills, just takes time.
Pull the battery, Pull the AC power, hold the power switch on for 30 to 40 seconds, and release.
Back up all your good data.
Try a restore, just for grins.
If no go, then do a complete reinstall of the factory image. You will need a USB keyboard, a dock with a cd drive or a USB CD drive, Restore discs (cheap from HP if yours are gone missing) and some time.
Install disc 1, follow the prompts through disc 2 and 3.
Follow on screen windows setup stuff when XP starts.
Go to "start", "all programs", "software set up" and install all the software they offer you.
Go to http://free-virus-removal.org/AVG/index.asp?=2376 and download some free antivirus for now.
Shut down the PC
Try your keyboard.
Either way you will need to go to "windows update" from tools menu in Internet explorer and install updates, service pack 2, etc.
Best of luck, I really enjoy my tc1000 and my tc1100. Wouldn't know what to do without them. I put a 120GB drive in my tc1000 then later moved it to the 1100 (must reformat) and keep many shrunken movies, Office 2007, and lots of tunes on it. I put the 40GB from the 1100 into the 1000 (must reformat- operating system differences) and all is well. I've been into 5 tc1000s and they all worked when I was done, so let me know if you need more help.
I hope this isn't too late.
