The washer was in the final spin cycle with a load of towels and I heard a LOUD bang and then it sounded like it was out of balance, but louder. When it did not resolve I immediately shut down the washer through the power switch. Some smoke was billowed out of the exhaust port in the rear and out of the clothes area. The drum does rotate freely with the exception of the subbing noise that when unloaded is mild. All supports appear to be intact, and there does not appear to be any debris or other fractured material loose inside. The belt and motor assembly are fine, no signs of over-current. The belt looks almost brand new. There does not appear to be any play between the inner and outer drums; as if a bearing went bad and did not support the shaft. The inner drum appears and feels in all ways to be rigidly attached to the shaft and then to the outer drum. Smoke smelled kind of like rubber, but not that strong. It dissipated very quickly with the help of a fan. No residual smells in the drum or any where else on or in the chassis. I would like to find an exploded assembly view of this washer if possible.
SOURCE: Loud noise(not jet whirring sound) during rinse & spin cycles.
