Your air conditioner is not a inverter model(your model is it a low cost model )and doesn-t work automaticlly when the power is off

There is not thermostat in the AC system, it is done by controlling pressures in the system..

what kind of split system do you have is it a ductless split like shown or do you have actual duct work where you can change the dampers

On some remotes there is a reset button which is pressed by using the nib of a pen. Or if this does not work you should look under the cover for a manual button, most units have one, and see if the aircon responds. I suspect your remote sensor is faulty, but try the previous suggestions first.
