Vizio 47" screen won't stay on

My tv is about 6 months old. Yesterday it started doing this thing where the video won't stay on. When I turn it on it shows the Vizio startup screen, goes black, the backlight turns on for about 1/2 second, then turns off, and about 5 seconds later I get sound but no video. I turned it on and off a few times yesterday and it finally worked. But, now it's blank again and restarting doesn't seem to be fixing it. I have a cable box and a bluray player plugged into it, and I think it might be getting stuck on the HDMI input if I turn off the tv while watching the BR player. Any ideas?

SOURCE: 47" Vizio Flat screen HD LCD freezes up and remote will not work.

could it be Ch 9's digital signal is not broadcasting right? what is your refresh rate on your tv? 60 or 120hz? if its 120hz, then its more then likely the digital broadcast, if its 60hz I think its your tv can't keep up with their signal that may be at 120hz. Make since??

Hey there, I have a 6 month old vizio 32" LCD 60hz

LCD inverter module may have encountered a failure. Most common is an electrolytic capacitor failing in the power supply. Examine the board to see if any of the caps have a bloated or raised top, they should not be swollen or leaky. If so find the replacement capacitor # on line and replace. You will require a modicum of soldering skills. You indicate the tv is 6 months old.
Return it for warranty service, do not open your tv or you will void your consumer warranty.

47" vizio died

Very high failure rate on this brand. Even after repair, something else will fail. Cut your losses and buy a brand name set.

My Vizio LCD TV screen fades to dark. Sound stays on.

I w having this same issue when watching a Blu-Ray disc. I found it to be dependent upon what picture mode the TV was set to. By this I mean certain picture modes would cause the TV to dim during dark scenes of a movie. Changing the picture mode helped a lot.

Vizio GV42L LCD TV screen black when turn TV on first time

If you are using a set top box this might be caused by turnig the box on at the same tie as you turn the tv on or slightly after you turn the tv on.  If you are using compnent or HDMI inputs the set needs to see the signal as it is turned on to know what formt the signal is in.
