Bonjour,

Nous avons une laveuse Maytag Neptune model MAH40000.
Hors que nous choisissions n'importe lequel cycle de température d'eau (hot - cold, warm - cold, etc.) nous optenons toujours de l'eau bouillante même au rinsage.

if r 11 is bad you should really check the bearing on the tub you will probably find it to be bad or going bad causing the moter to pull more amps causing r 11 to burn out.

The door will not lock

There is a small actuator that locks the door before the spin cycle located in the door latch assembly. This actuator is called a wax motor, Maytag part # 12002535 is the redesigned part. It works by heating a ball of wax up which causes the actuator pin to push out and lock the door. It takes around 45 seconds to extend so it is rather slow compared to a typical electromechanical solenoid. The older wax motors have a brown actuator pin while the newer version has a black actuator pin.
The wax motor failure is caused by moisture penetrating the wax motor (older design) over time, which causes the electrical resistance to drop to such a value that the small Q6 triac located on the upper control board overheats and shorts out internally. The triac is essentially an electronic switch that is controlled by a low control voltage, which is provided ultimately by the processor U1. The R11 overheats because the failed Q6 is allowing 120 volts on the triac's center control pin. When this happens, R11 burns and opens up electrically. Sometimes Q6 still looks normal and other times the plastic case ruptures after the failure. However, a burnt R11 is the telltale sign that you have had this failure and the Neptune washer should be left off to prevent further damage to your upper control board.
To inspect your control board you need to do the following:

1. Unplug your Neptune's power cord.

2. Remove three Philips screws along top of washer console.

3. Pull top of control console towards you while pushing bottom of console away from you.

4. Control board is located behind timer assembly on back panel.

5. Inspect the R11 resistor located near the left control board mounting screw.

If your R11 is burnt, you have two options. The first is to repair the control board and the second option is to replace the control board. To repair your control board you will need a 25-watt pencil type soldering iron, solder, diagonal cutters, needle nose pliers, replacement Q6 and R11 components. Whether you repair or replace control board I would not power up machine until the new wax motor is installed or you risk damaging your repaired or new control board again.

If you have not experienced the No-Spin problem consider yourself lucky because you are now aware of the issue and can replace the wax motor before you have a failure. You need to inspect your door lock wax motor and make sure you dont have the older style with the brown actuator pin. Note: If you identify that you have the older brown pin wax motor you need to replace it a.s.a.p. so you don't experience the R11/Q6 failure. I would not use machine until the original wax motor is replaced

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washers Machine Control Board Repair

Component failures on Maytag Neptune Font Load Washers such as the pressure switch, wax motor, hot and cold water valve solenoids, timer motor, 24 VDC circuit, and the overall electrical buffer circuit have significant effect on the machine control board. Failed resistors on the machine control board can be used to determine failed washer components. Resistor R9 is associated with the pressure switch, R11 is for the wax motor, R51 for the hot water valve solenoid, R52 for the timer motor, R53 for the cold water valve solenoid, R143 for the 24 VDC circuit, and R162 for the overall electrical buffer circuit. The TRIAC Q6 is also associated with the wax motor while TRIACS Q3, Q9, and Q17 are for the timer motor, cold water valve solenoid, and hot water valve solenoid respectively. These TRIACS must also be replaced should the corresponding resistors fail or burn out especially when there's no power going to the associated component.

The most common problem experienced is the failure of the wax motor as indicated by the inability of the washer to advance to the high speed spin cycle with the "door locked" light not lit. Replace the TRIAC Q6 and the resistor R11 on the machine control board to get the machine back into operation. Use MAC97A6 or NTE5656 for Q6 and a 3.9 kilo-ohms carbon or carbon film resistor for R11. It is recommended to install a 1/2-ampere pico fuse in series with the wax motor to prevent damage to Q6 and R11 should the wax motor shorts out and fails again.

Replacement of the wax motor is a must before installing the repaired or new machine control board to prevent damage to the repaired or new part. Make sure the wiring harness connections of washer components are good and snug fit. Reseat the connectors several times to clean off corrosion build up both on the connectors and terminals.

Why did the Q6 component blow on the circuit board

Hi,

I`m not sure which component you refer to by "Q6", but typically on the Maytag Neptune washer it is the resistors associated with the door lock assembly which burn out on the "machine control board" (not to be confused with the "motor control board" located under the basket/tub inside the cabinet). It should look like the image below.

You can usually examine the control via a visual inspection to confirm or dismiss any damage. Look for any sign of burnt resistor's, specifically one identified as R11 and one as R75 they are both part of the lock circuit and if damaged will prevent the washer from draining and spinning properly because the door lock won't engage. The control will need to be replaced if damaged as will the latch wax motor. (Unless you can identify the value of the resistor`s and take a gamble on a repair)

Matag neptune front load washer MAH4000AWW tumbles but won't spin dry. I tried it with and without clothes in the wash.

Check if the "locked"or "door locked" light comes on. If it does not, you need to replace the wax motor in the door lock assembly and the machine control board, which is inside the control panel. The control board is expensive, so instead of buying the whole control board, if you're good in electronic repair and soldering, try checking ebay for the control board repair kit. Search for "MAYTAG NEPTUNE WASHER R11 Q6 REPAIR KIT". It has all instructions how to do the repair. Good luck!

yes if replacing the machine control board because of burnt resistor you do also replace the wax motor and spin switch.the spin switch and wax motor are next to each other in a bracket above where the door closes top of door jam.where the door lock mechanism are

Machine keeps tumbling after wash cycle is completed.

Make sure that the replacement R11 is in fact connected to pins 1 & 2 of the Q6 triac. If the copper trace on the backside is open on either leg of the R11 to the Q6 then the wax motor will stay energized and that will cause the tumbling after the wash cycle.

Maytag Neptune not spinning - further help pls if you can

Hi Charles,

If your door latch wax motor actuator pin color matches the body color (brownish color) then you have the defective wax motor and it needs to be replaced. See www.neptunewaxmotor.com for step by step disassembly photos. Then, I would check the machine control board (located behind the timer in upper console) for a burnt resistor, R11 which is located near the left circuit board mounting slot. If the R11 is burnt you can try the STAGE 1 repair kit, which includes a new R11 resistor and Q6 triac and wax motor or you can purchase a new control board. Don't forget to unplug machine when servicing your Neptune.

You can try to solder the new R11 and Q6 into the machine control board as there is a video on the above mentioned site that shows you how to perform the R11 and Q6 replacement. Another option is to call local t.v. repair shops and see if they will replace the components for you for a nominal fee. I hope this helps

Spin issue with first model of washer maytag neptune

I think you have what's known as the "R11 and Q6 Problem".  The quick and costly repair method is to replace the circuit board.  The less expensive way is described at this Web site: 
http://members.shaw.ca/gavb/index.html.  I followed the steps for replacing the R11 resistor and the Q6 Triac on the circuit board and ti solved my no-spin issue.
