Images are black

You are either using too slow a shutter speed, or too wide an aperture, causing the images to be overexposed. As to the other issue, the camera may not record images if the exposure is too inaccurate. Try looking in the manual.

Make sure the picture you can't remove isn't locked. When you're in review press menu and make sure that photo isn't set to locked (if so unlock and you should be able to delete it).
If that doesn't help, make sure you copy off all the images on the card you want, as the following instructions are intended to clear the entire card.
After you transfer all the images you want, you'll want to format the memory card. This can be done one of two ways. If you have the appropriate card reader on your PC, you can insert the card, find it in my computer. Then right click it and select format.
The easier way is to use your camera's format feature. I don't have that specific model, but it can usually either be found in menu, or by pressing the picture review button and then menu. Formatting the card should erase all the data on it and clear off the picture you don't want.

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras, particularly for the SD1000. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.


By the way, my wife's SD1000 also has this problem every once in a while. I easily fix it by using the following steps from the link: powering on the camera, opening and closing the battery door, and flicking the end of the lens barrel with my fingertip (or you can tap it with a pencil as discussed in the link).

Ok not sure if you mean whilst taking the picture or after, if this is whilst you need to select the picture mode i.e Auto, Sport, Night, etc, the camera will display the config on the screen for a few seconds, in this time hit the OK button this will set the picture to Liveview, you will be able to see them on the screen,
Now to see the pictures you have taken you need to push the review button and scroll through the images,

you can see images clearly? but no Menu items show is that what you mean? This would indicate a firmware malfunction. If you see nothing at all on the screen but only 'ghost' images then the back light has blown. Try first of all with the camera on tapping gently at the base of the casing in the region of the screen- this is where the connectors to the main board are. Contact The Minolta support team. If you are getting nowhere - I suggest the next camera - repairs are not usually an economic option if at all.

same old problem of damaged CCD. Get the CCD replaced.
