The directions(manual) for this player is very poor input. What does NTSC, PAL, AUTO mean? Or on the Audio setup, SPDIF/OFF/RAW/PCM mean? I have bought three different cables to connect the portable dvd player to tv and still cannot view movie on my tv. Manual states to use s-video/audio cable, I want to connect to the front of my tv for easy use. The tv does not have s-video in the front. I have taken the GPX player into Radio Shack and they suggested the most recent cable(Camcorder A/V cable). My son has a old DVD player and we use a simple standard A/V cable, works great, but my new GPX DVD player isn't that way at all. I looked up the GPX mgf. site, they have a PDL805-AV-CBL,(dolby digital DT3 audio video cable) is this what I need to view movies on the tv instead of portable player? HELP please, Darci
Yep, exact same questions, but I have the GPX PDL705. I've tried multiple cables, and can't get them to work. The player also has a 3.5mm s-video out...? I've never seen one of these before; the only s-video cable I've ever seen is the larger round 4-pin connectors.
I also searched for the "Dolby Digital DT3 AV cable" as indicated on the GPX website, and the ONLY place I can find any mention this cable is on the GPX website!Yep, exact same questions, but I have the GPX PDL705. As a replacement for "Dolby Digital DT3 AV cable" can be used a " 3.5mm (mono) to RCA(or coaxal)" Cable. Just make sure that DVD Player set for "SPDIF/RAW" or "SPDIF/PCM" output

The manual seems to indicate that the TV will automatically detect what signal type is present, so PAL should be recognized. There is, however the possibility that the "Color System" setting under the system menu may not be set to "AUTO", but NTSC. This would cause a conflict when detecting PAL input and affect picture. Check the "Color System" and either select PAL or AUTO and see if that helps.

This is a multisystem TV. All Multi System TVs in the market do not have a digital TV tuner: What does this mean?
To watch digital channels (ATSC Broadcasting in US and DVBT
broadcasting overseas) you need a digital source/tuner like a cable box,
digital tuner, satellite service, etc.
To get the best quality video on this TV you need a source that has a digital connection like HDMI or component.
Wide Screen Mode allows you to watch conventional 4:3 aspect ratio broadcasts in wide screen (16:9) mode.
Steady Sound® equalizes volume levels so there is consistent output between programs and commercials.
Built-in hidden speakers includes 2 (5W x 2) speakers to deliver dynamic sound.
Component Video Input offers the best video quality for
DVD (480p and 480i), and digital set-top box (1080p, 1080i, 720p, 480p
and 480i) connections.
PC Input allows you to connect your PC and display the PC screen on your TV.
As long as the NTSC DVDs are not region coded, and your TV is multi-standard (able to receive NTSC as well as PAL signals via A/V inputs or similar connections), the player should play NTSC just fine through it
I assume this is a PHILIPS player? If so, most PHILIPS DVD players support NTSC playback on PAL TV.
You are correct, Australia is region 4 for DVD standard. The only restriction would be region codes.
what video device do you plug in to your TV screen, DVD player/VCR or game console?
If you still have the owners manual of your TV screen, look for instruction regarding Color system or video system. this menu will allow you to change color sytem from PAL to NTSC or AUTO system. most likely the reason why you have a black and white color from vidoe input is because of system color compatibilty from your input device to your screen.
Or if your using a dvd player, you can also try accessing the "setup" button and look for video setting. from the video setting there will be selection to choose from: PAL , NTSC, AUTO . always select "auto" so that the color system of your DVD player can change from PAL to NTSC deffending on your TV screen system setup.
No, the PLAYER has to be PAL Regional - any tv will play the signal it is given.
If the player was purchased in the US, it is NTSC.
Some players are Region Free (especially older ones) - However symphonic states yours is a NTSC Region player. I would suggest purchasing a cheapo PAL DVD player off eBay, and connecting to the A/V inputs on your TV.
Sounds like you're feeding the ADVC the wrong broadcast format. Either PAL when the ADVC is in NTSC mode, or NTSC when the ADVC is in PAL mode.
Alternatively, your capture software may have a broadcast format setting as well, and that may not be matching what the ADVC is sending out. Remember that the ADVC does not do NTSC<->PAL format conversion, so NTSC analog input becomes NTSC DV, and PAL analog input becomes PAL DV.
Zohar, You must remember that various regions in the world have different Broadcast systems. TVs and VCRs are manufactured for playback and Recording in different regions.
But, while the JVC HR - J 437MS is a Multi System VCR as far as Playback is concerned, It has only a PAL Tuner. So , while you can watch NTSC Tapes, you cannot tune a NTSC Broadcast through its tuner, and watch on your TV. You will only get a B&W picture.
To atleast view NTSC Tapes, use the Remote of the VCR, and set System to AUTO or NTSC. Again, there are 2 versions of NTSC - the 3.58 and the 4.43 ones. Certain regions of the US broadcast in NTSC 3.58, and some in NTSC 4.43.
So select carefully, Similarly, bring up the TV menu, and select AUTO or NTSC for TV reception. Now you will be able to view American broadcasts in color. But I suggest you set System to AUTO, as then you can watch your earlier Tapes collection from Europe also.
As for connections, it is fairly simple.
I am uncertain if your VCR has a 21 pin euroconnector (SCART)but it is unlikely. You will be having Audio L and Audio R out ockets at the rear of the VCR, alongwith Video Out socket.
Just connect suitable RCA cables from these OUT sockets to the Video and Audio IN (L) and Audio IN (R) siockets on the TV. select AV input, and you are ready. check it out.
99% it will be work out.
is your tv is the same tv that u playing before? coz according to you if u play ntsc there is no problem. if ur tv is multisystem, u can change the tv system menu to auto, but if not u cannot watch coz ntsc tv only accepts ntsc signal.
