Re: Solid black line down the document when scanning
Are you using the autofeeder to feed your documents?
if yes, open the top cover and clean both glasses (big and small).
and take the drum out, move the blue panel to clean up your drum.
after that should be working fine.

If you are seeing vertical streaks/black lines your primary corona wire is dirty and or the fax scanner may be dirty. 1)To clean the corona wire you take the drum unit and toner cartridge and place it on disposable paper to avoid spilling. 2) Clean the primary corona wire inside the drum unit by sliding the blue tab from right to left several times. 3) Return the blue tab and snap it into the home position. 4) Reinstall the drum unit and toner cartridge. 5) Close the front cover. Caution: if you do not return the blue tab to the home position it may repeat the black lines.
If it's a thin, sharp line, it's just a blob of ball-point pen ink on the scanner glass. Lift the lid, and you'll see the narrow strip of glass that the scanner uses when you feed a document through the feeder. Clean that with a rag dampened with window cleaner, or, better yet, alcohol. Even a dot of ink too small to see will show as a solid black line on anything you copy, scan, or fax via the doc. feeder. Don't use so much cleaner that it runs under the glass.
There is a thin strip of glass next to the main platen glass, where documents fed through the feeder are scanned. You most likely have Wite-Out or some sort of debris stuck to the glass. You can probably wipe this residue off, but if you need to clean that strip of glass, use alcohol and a lint-free rag.
You need to clean the scanner glass. Also known as the strip glass. It is a 1 inch wide strip of glass that runs from the front to the back. Your documents pass over this glass when they are scanned. Some of the wax crayon probably smeared off onto the glass and now when you scan the scanner sees these marks as stationary and thus records them as solid lines. Just look into the scanner section where your documents are fed in or depending on model, some are just to the left of the large original glass.
