No water from Water dispensor

I have GE monogram side by side refrigerator. Since this weekend, the water is not coming out of water dispensor. I haven't changed anything at all. Ice is being made without any problems.

Thanks for your reply back. First and foremost, I am not sure where the model number is written. I can't seem to find it. I looked inside and outside the refrigerator. It is a built-in side by side GE monogram refrigerator.

As for the filter, I have by passed it as the water the refrigerator gets is already filtered. It has been this way since I bought the home almost a year back.

Water valve idea you have may be true? How do I check that please?

    Thanks

    Hello,
I have taken some pictures of the Water valve. I understand it right, it is on the top portion of the Refrigferator. You can look at the pictures at: http://aash73.shutterfly.com/23

Please let me know the following:
    1) this is the water valve you are referring to, right?
    2) Are there any instructions on replacing it? OR when I buy the part, the instructions come with the part? Are they on the internet somewhere?

    Please help.

    Thanks

You are right in terms of replacing "i" with "1". I found the part as well on repair clinic. I will go ahead and order it then. I am not sure if it will come with any instructions on how to replace it. If you have any tips in replacing it and/or know of a place for me to get the directions, pleaso do let me know.

I 'd like to thank you for taking the time to post your comments promptly. Appreciate it.

Here is where I am. I bought the water valve from repair clinic. Installed it today. I have checked to make sure that the water line to the refregerator is now active (since I turned it off before installing the new valve). No water from the dispensor. When i click on the dispensor, I hear clicking sound coming from the valve, which, I think, means the the water valve is being opened and then closed, but still no water. I have emptied my ice bin to check if ice is being made. I will check in about 2-3 hours to see if ice being made or not.

So, if the ice is being made, I am back to square one (i.e. ice being made but water not coming out). If the ice is not being made, then I guess something is not right. I have made sure that the "red" and "blue" electric connections are correctly in place ( I marked them before I took the orig valve out). Could I have put the electric connection in "flipped" way (issue with polarity, I guess). But if that was the case, I wouldn't be able to hear the water valve clickign sound. I don't know?

    Any ideas? Please help...

OK. I am not sure what happened but it is working now. Perhaps, the water line was frozen or somethign. But, thank God, it is working. thanks for all your help in this regard.

  • aash73 Jun 20, 2009

Hello All, As I woke up this morning, one of the first things I checked was whether the water dispensor was still working or not. And , it is not working again. But, since it was working last night, that proved that the part that I installed works fine now.

May it be that the line inside the refrigerator get frozen?

Please help as this is driving me nuts......

Have you checked your water valve? I dont have your model number but you could have what you call a double water valve and one side of it may be out, alternately you may need to change your water filter if you havent done that yet. I have seen were the water stops dispensing first and then stops making ice. have you changed the filter lately? If not change it then if that doesnt work check water inlet valve...

The only sure fire way to check it...because it could read good with a meter but still not work is to take it off...connect a water source to it and plug it in. In other words you would have a old cord, from an old lamp or something you dont need doesnt work any more. wire nut some aligator clips or wire nut some female connectors to the cord put those connectors on the male metal leads comming out of the valve and with it connected to a water source plug it in and see if water shoots out of the valve...with a double water valve check both sides if it is making ice one side will work. take picture of valve on refrig with cell phone or something before you take it off so you will get it back on right and dont for get to turn off water supply to frige before you start working back there also unplug frige before messing with it. the valve is located at back at the bottom of the back of the unit. write back if having any trouble and dont forget to leave comment for me

The water valve is behind the refigerator at the bottom it is usually blue and you will see a water line going to it when you pull/roll the unit out to get to it. The model number is most likely in the refrigerated section to the right or left sides or on the inside "roof" of the unit. see here by clicking on this link...good luck...

That looks more like a serial number...are you sure it is the model number. Yes once you get the right model number you can input it and it will show pictures of many of the parts of your refrigerator but that link should have taken you to a page to explain how to find your model number...double check that and get back with me if you are still having a problem...the serial number only identifies you as the owner, you need the model number to look up parts and repair help. Good Luck!

  • Anonymous May 18, 2009

You know that may be a good model number....go to www.searspartsdirect.com and try to look it up that way. and double check the number and see if maybe you are not one digit/charector off.

  • Anonymous May 23, 2009

Yes, that is the water valve. Make sure you shut off the water before you take it off to check it. But before you do that, Have you changed/checked your water filter. Your model number is not working for me. There is one more place to try to see if that is a good number but the site is down and wont be up for another 60 min. If you have a built in filter and you have not changed it in a while the unit will stop giving water because the filter is cogged. If your filter is fine or you don't have one that the next thing to check is the water valve, which you have givin me a picture of. Just put the new one on in the exact same place as the old and hook up the water lines going to it. That is why I wanted you to take the picture to be able to remember how it was on there. Remember you can find parts for your machine at www.searspartsdirect.com

but the site is down right now. Write back if you need more assistance.

I figured out why your model number was not working earlier...I believe the second charector in your model number is a I (pronounced eye), and not a 1 (one) change it and you will be able to see an exploded diagram of your machine and order parts. I had forgotten that you bypassed the water filter so just diregard that part of my last post. There will be some directions that come with the water filter that you purchase....if that is what you need...Good Luck

Drinking water from refrigerator stopped dispensing immediately

At the bottom of the freezer door ( remove the kick plate ) , there will be a water line . Follow this line , about 6 " to a connector . Push in on the white ring and pull out the line , at the same time . Activate the water dispensor pad and see if water flows from the line under the refrig . If it does , then the line in the door is frozen . Either raise the freezer temp for several days , so the line in the door will thaw , turn on the dispensor light for several hours , or , I have heard using an air tank will blow the ice out of the line in the door . If no water comes from the line under the refrig , while activating the pad , then replace the water valve , behind the refrig , the piece the wall water line connects to on the refrig . GE also has a dispensor heater , pt # WR49X10173 which comes with instructions , to keep this from happening again .

Water wont dispense but still makes ice. Also fridge side gets extremely cold no matter the settings and freezes stuff in the bottum drawers

Since your freezer control is the main thermostat , and your refrig control is only a damper , lower your freezer setting and turn the refrig control mid way . This will make the refrig run less , and keep the air flow moving , throughout the complete unit . When the airflow stops , by turning down the refrig control ( closing the damper ) , all the cold air will settle in the refrig section , thereby freezing everything in the lower section .
Since the water line runs thru the freezer door , too cold in the freezer section , will cause the water in the line to freeze . I would also suggest installing a dispensor heater ( pt. # WR49X10173 ) , which would hopefully avoid water line freeze , in the future . This part comes with installation instructions .

My GE Profile side by side refrigerator ice dispensor and water dispensor has quit working. The appliance is less than 4 years old. Wanda

The common connection between the two starts at the water fill valve. I have found also that the filter (water) if clogged, will prevent water flow to both. Change the filter first, cheapest and eaisest.

If your using the correct bypass plug which came with the refrigerator , the water dispensor should still work . Make sure the plug is very snuggly , tight in place .
