I have a kitchenaid refrigerator KTRC22E that is not cooling? the fan motor is working but the compressor is not kicking in. I hear it clicking but nothing. could it be a capacitor?
This often occurs after pulling the unit for cleaning. You may either have shut the water valve off or pinched the water hose when pushing back in place. In both cases you won't have water in the unit, therefore the ice maker will not be operating.
Pour about 1/2 cup of water into ice maker . If it dumps the cubes , then replace the water valve . If it doesn't , replace the ice maker . Also make sure thefridge coils are clean and free of dust , lint , pet hair , etc....
I called the KitchenAid customer support number. Found out that control goes off when the temperature of the fridge is above 48 degrees (i.e., over a few days, the food would be spoiling). This is not the case for ours, since everything seems to be working fine. They said there is probably something malfunctioning with that button/control, and there is no manual turn-off mechanism. We have to call someone to come and fix it.
I would suggest not buying a KitchenAid. I have the same problem with my ice maker. Have had nothing but problems with every KitchenAid product that I have ever owned. I will never purchase another KitchenAid product.
All of there appliances are second rate. That is "The KitchenAid Difference"
