I have the Canon W8400PG - Recently noticed that the Yellow was out of alignment with the rest of the color. Prints have a yellow after-image. So I ran the Printhead alignment. Unfortunately, it's hit and miss. Sometimes it goes all the way through without complaint, but most of the time it prints some or all of the test patterns, before finishing, ejecting media and displaying E02820 Adj. Failed. The black part of the alignment prints have strange streaks in them, and seem like they are slightly fuzzy , or badly sprayed. I'm using genuine inks, with the MBk. Nozzle check prints perfectly and prints are fine apart from the misalignment. Running at the end of my tether here - any help?
YOU MUST BE USING REFILLED CARTRIDGES. AFTER A COUPLE OF REFILLS THE TECHNOLOGY USED BY EPSON IS "BUBBLE JET" TYPE WHERE THE INK IS EJECTED/SPRAYED ON THE PAPER. after CONTINUAL RE-FILLS THE NOZZLE OF THE PRINT HEAD WIDENS, THUS GIVING YOU SMUDGY/SPRAYED TYPE OF PRINTOUTSW

This is already a printhead issue, unfortunately. Printer has not been used for a long time that is why the nozzles got clogged.
Make sure that you are using a correct genuine epson cartridge.
If your printer is over a year old now, please log on to epson.com. Go to the drivers and support page. Click on help me find a service center to the right of the page to send your printer to an epson certified servicer near to your area.

Did you try the printer cleaning on the computer

You may need new print heads. They are around $50. Or, you could do this: Take the print head out of the printer, and run warm water from the tap (not high pressure), over the ports for about 5 minutes. Ink will drop out of the jets. Dont touch the electrical contact end of this head. This may clean the head enough so it works again. If not you need a new print head.

Hi Jan,
Can you confirm that you are using a CIS or non-HP cartridges with this printer?
It sounds a lot like the printhead has reached a clogging point where sediment has built up in the black portion and loosens enough to printer a few lines before it re-asserts itself again.
Based on my experience of this printer, if you're using a non-HP delivery system for ink then you should consider replacing the black ink with a dyebase alternative instead of pigment.. Replacing the Black/Yellow printhead and running a number of test prints to purge the pigment ink in the printhead should then result in a clean and more reliable printout in future.
One other vector for problems is the cleaning area and I've found that this can become soiled with excess ink causing cross contamination within the inks of one printhead. As yet I've not found a reliable solution to counter this sort of issue.
Hope this gives some clues and hopefully some ideas of a fix.
Martin

Hi There
Summary
Usage of compatible ink and leave the printer idle too long may cause printhead clogging
What should you do if you get this problem. Relax; you may recover the printhead by unclogging it. Follow these steps to unclog the printhead
1. Right click in the printer driver name
2. Select Properties menu
3. Click Maintenance tab
4. Click on cleaning sign for regular cleaning. Perform this up to 3 times.
5. If this does not work, perform Deep Cleaning
And if that not work
Some times it needs a good clean up but this is up to you if you want to do this,
But after you done this prime the printer so it gets the inks back in the heads, it may take a little time for the inks to work.
Ok.
There is fluid cleaner for this but I can never find any in the shops the only ones I seen is when they sell them in Tesco but they come in with the ink refill bottles so I just use worm water by it self on a cloth and dabbing on the heads to clean them, it will not harm the heads but not to much water.
Some heads are on the inks them self but some have them inside the printer so I not know your printer so if the heads are inside you need to get them out you may find that some heads will just clip out put some need to be unscrewed so you got to know how they come out so be careful and not push to hard on them, if the heads are on the ink then it is a easy job to clean them,
It worth a try it worked for me more than ones.
Please all I ask is call back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one, so I will keep on helping.
