Cannot get radios to communicate with each other, even though they are on the same channel.
They might be on same channel but ctcss codes will be different

hope this helps
SOURCE: Motorola Talkabout T6500 will not transmit.
Are you sure the batteries are ok?, try to change the batery, check the radio battery contacts, verify if when you press the ptt, appear an icon on the display that correspond to TX function. Try to use an audio accesory to TX, if all this fail, you should replace it. Good luck

Hi,
Yes, but depends on the configuration/setup and programming/frequency assignation of the MTS2000.
To my knowledge, the UHF version of the Motorola MTS2000 are designed to operate either in the 403~470Mhz or the 450~512 or 520MHz band.
On the other hand, Motorola TalkAbout Radio are design limited to operate in the FRS band which is 462.5625~462.7250MHZ and/or the GMRS band which is 462.550~467.725.
So technically, both the MTS2000 and the FRS/GMRS share some frequencies. What needs to be done is to re-program the frequency allocation of the MTS2000 into its channels to match the TalkAbouts frequencies. The other way around is not possible. TalkAbouts frequency assignments can not be reprogrammed/changed. Below are typical TalkAbout Channels/Frequencies.
Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.

can they talk to each other?
check the tx and rx frequency.
Check the subtones, are they TPL or DPL?

You need to set your interference eliminator code to zero, and your Qt filter to zero also. Here is a link to the owners manual: http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/T6500%20Series%20User%20Manual.pdf
What is happening is your T6500 is set to ignore radios which do not match the same code. The fact your Cobras can hear the T6500 indicates they are set with their interference eliminator turned off (aka no code).
A similar occurance will happen if the Qt filter is set to anything but zero. The Qt filter is unique to Motorola. These features are beneficial when you are in a high radio traffic area and you want to block out hearing other people. But in your situation, you are mixing radios, and the easiest way to make them match is to turn off the special features (aka set them to zero).
