Thank you for your time and effort to resolve this issue.  I have browsed the pages and cannot find a solution.  I did find that this particular error Dell recommends that if running xp and I receive error code cc3-205 to call Brother Customer Service 1-800-284-4329  Mon-Fri 9am-7pm est  they apologized for any inconvenience I may have experienced.  I just hope this will not be a per minuter call where they charge me.  I have read the book front and back.  The computer talks to all in one but the unit will not talk back to the computer.  I think it is a software, driver or hardware problem and not an operator issue.  I will report back after my call.

Hi Mix-it-up.  I got the problem resolved.  Your link to Brothers support was right on.  I called and a tech had me reset the drivers using a file he had me download.  The Brothers tech support was good.

I made one error on this board though and somehow I locked the ratings option on this board.  I can't recall all the options.  If I could change it I would give you 5 stars and yes you had the answer to the issue.

Thank you for your time and efforts to help me.

Brother Scanner error message.

After much time with Brother Tech support. The solution finally turned out to be as simple as downloading this file to reset the drivers.

This is what I did to get it to work.

Go to Brother website and choose All, Win XP, English.

Close CC3 in your toolbar.

Then update firmware ver 2.20 Jan 10,2008 is what was the latest.

Then I downloaded and installed ControlCenter3 Update Ver A 10/04/07.

Scan worked first try.

I had the same issue. Brother Customer Support was very helpful in resolving - Thanks for the suggestion.

My issue turned out to be firewall related. Brother had me uninstall using the uninstall under Program --> Brother ---> Uninstall. This requires a reboot afterward.

Then disabled the firewall, reinstalled the product. Forces another reboot - EVERYTHING worked. Able to Print and Scan.

I need the OCR software for the printer. Windows XP version.

After scanning the text files and saving them as tiff or jpg image files you use OCR programs to convert these files to text files.
There are commercial OCR and freeware OCR programs available.
Check out these WEB sites for free OCR programs.

When scanning to ocr I get brccMCtl.exe has encountered .... and it shuts down. I can scan to email, file, and image. But Not to OCR. The Brother Control Center 3.00 is the problem.

I deleted all Brother programmes from by PC, cleaned the registry and used the Brother Uninstall programme first. (I restarted the PC after each deletion)
Then I reinstalled the latest Brother printer driver software without the PaperPort SE 11 programme.
Then I installed the Paperport programme separately.

It worked.

Thanks

How to scan a hard copy, and send in an email?

Hello,
Install the Control Center CC3, if it is not already installed. Connect the MFC-5460CN to the computer. Open the CC3 software. Click the Scan button. You will have the choice to Scan to Picture, Scan to OCR, Scan to E-mail, or Scan to file.
You click to E-mail. The MFC scans the document and opens the default E-mail program (Outlook, Outlook Express), attaches the scanned picture and all that is left for you to do is to supply the E-mail address where the document is to be sent.

If you have problems doing that, scan to file then open the E-mail client to create a new message and attach the file you scanned.

Hope it helps.

Not able to scan to pdf file with Brother MFC-240C

What you seem to want to do is not possible. Let me explain:
A file that has its data in the Adobe company Portable Document Format (or a pdf file) contains various objects that are described to the computer using a superset of the PostScript language, some of them can be images.

A file that comes from the scanner is first a very organized set of pixels and gets put into a more compact form by using a well known process as defined by the Joint Motion Picture Experts group. This is a roundabout way of saying that it has a format that isn't PDF.

What you CAN do:
a) open the jpeg file with a Macintosh, using the Print command from the file menu make a pdf file that has the image in it.

b) buy and install a PDF printer driver on a Windows machine, and then follow the same process as A above.

c) Use your favorite PDF creation program to make a file with the image embedded.
