The Stereo is looking for a ground signal on the parking brake wire. It's a safety feature so that you are not watching movies while driving. To bypass this you will need to connect the stereo's parking brake to ground.

This unit has Class "D" amplifier which is a switching type, unlike most linear amplifiers you might be familiar with. The MOSFETs operate either in full on or full off mode and switch... probably at 100KHz or more with a duty cycle proportionate to the desired output. The energy is then smoothed in an inductor/capacitor filter becoming the desired linear type signal. You MUST have a triggered oscilloscope to troubleshoot this type of an amplifier. You may also need experience with logic circuits as often the current limiters for the switchers uses logic circuits. Thepower supply for most of these high powered call D amps runs from the power line and you will need an isolation transformer to safely work on the unit, primarily for personal safety. Search Google for "Class D amplifier" for information if you haven't had engineering education on these amps.

If the amp is going into protect, it likely has shorted output transistors. To eliminate other possible causes, read through the following page.

Take off the face plate and it is located in the lower left corner

It should have a blue wire from the harness on the back of the player for turning on the amp, it may also be labeled "antenna" or "power antenna" or "P con". That is the one to run to the remote turn on of the amp.

Does it turn on (are the lights on... and if so is the "protect" light lit)?
