The only thing I can see direct sunlight on a flat panel LED TV doing is burning the screen, making the TV hotter than usual and/or warping the frame/casing. It is not recommended according to operation manuals, and as long as you don't use harsh chemicals to clean it, keep liquids away from it, you should be fine. Just move the TV or shade it from sunlight (e.g. if the TV is near a window - pull the blinds/shades/curtains). This will make the picture easier to see during the day and also prolong the set's life.

Direct sunlight on a TV which is not turned on (or plugged into the power point) won't do much.

SOURCE: tv is showing 480p and we want it at 1080p on our

After searching the owners manual I find that there is nothing mentioned about the screen resolution i.e. 480p to 1080p.

This set is capable of your desired resolution and as far as I can tell it auto selects because it senses the input video and decides which is the best setting for that source.

It's important to understand that you need 1080p video to use it at it's full capabilities. It won't give you a 1080p resolution from a VCR or a standard DVD player. You need a DVD player that is capable of producing a 1080p encoded video. Some satellite receivers are capable of that but you need to make sure you know what resolution that you are sending to the television.

Local TV stations won't usually broadcast HD at 1080p. Your best bet is to use a DVD player that is capable of that high resolution for your best picture.

Please note that what it says in the owners manual about "Resolution" has nothing to do with the 480p, 720p or 1080p signals, your set selects that automatically it will start by selecting the 1080p then goes to 720p then 420p it's dependent on the video you send to the set.

Please note the "resolution" function is actually like a "sharpness" control.

Your video input (tuner, VCR, DVD, games and etc.) is likely your problem.

How do I fix my Samsung 40 LED TV that has sound but no picture?

Here is what to check when your TV is turned on, power light is ON, but no picture is seen or sound is heard:

1 - Be sure the component you are using (Xbox, Cable, SAT, ROKU) is turned ON.
2 - Check to be sure all cable and cords are securely connected to the TV inputs and component outputs.
3 - Make sure you are on the correct input as some TV's will show a black screen if there is nothing connected to that input.
4 - Unplug the input you are trying to use from the TV (such as an HDMI Cable) and plug it back in.
5 - Check for signs of damage on all cords and cables from the TV to all components.
6 - Make sure the TV is not in ENERGY SAVE MODE, press the button on the remote control to go back to normal mode.
7 - Unplug the TV for 10 minutes to see if there was a temporary one time issue with the TV.
8 - Disconnect the TV from power for 2 minutes, then when plugging it back in PRESS AND HOLD THE POWER BUTTON ON THE TV FOR 10 to 20 SECONDS to try and force the TV to reset.
9 - If after checking all these different issues, you may have a Faulty Power Supply Board, A Bad Capacitor on the Power Supply Board, Loose Wire Harness, or Loose Ribbon Connector in the TV itself.
10 - Most likely when a TV has the power light ON but NO PICTURE and NO SOUND, it is the Power Supply Board that has failed.

BTW, here are solutions for you to play iTunes movies on Samsung smart TV
