My system doesn't see 500GB HDD (SATA) (Seagate Barracuda)

I have successfully installed SATA300 TX2 plus controller into PCI slot and connected to it my new 500GB HDD. My system didn't see it. I rebooted it using simple mode and found it in administrator window. I started formatting the HDD in the simple mode and it took couple of hours. After the formation had finished this the system lost the HDD totally.

I am running:

AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2400+

1GB RAM

200GB and 300GB HDDs

WinXP SP2

Trying to make my seagate barracuda 7200.9 slave

1) Open your computer case
2) On the back of the drive where the connectors are, you have jumpers. These small plastic tabs change the function of your hard drive. All hard drives have a special setup procedure. The information about jumper settings is on the top of the hard drive.
3) Remove plastic tabs and put them according to "Slave" instructions.
4) Connect drive to middle connector of the cord.
5) Connect power supply cord.
6) Secure the drive in place and close computer case.

Also make sure that the main drive is not set as slave.

How can i connect a seagate barracuda hard drive to a sony vaio desktop pcv-rz22g? i'm installing an a additional hard drive but can't seem to find a sata connector on the motherboard, so there's no way...

You can't find a SATA connector because there isn't one. That computer was built before SATA drives were widely available. You will need a Serial ATA controller PCI card to connect your SATA drive to your computer, such as here:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1455&name=Serial-ATA-Controllers&
Make sure it is a PCI card and NOT a PCI-Express (or PCI-e) card, as your computer doesn't have any PCI-Express slots either. Here's an example of what you need:
http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3501402&CatId=1455

Also, the Barracuda is probably a 3.0 Gbps drive, but will only run at the slower 1.5 Gbps speeds from the PCI interface cards. Again, it's an age thing. That computer was a top dog in it's day.

Harddrive is not detecting bios

get a hard drive kit that will connect it via usb or get a PCI card that will allow you to install the PCI card into a PCI slot and then attach the hard drive to the PCI card ( ensuring you select the correct PCI card ) ie if its a sata drive then get a sata PCI controller card and if its IDE then get an IDE PCI controller card.
Also check for motherboard updates for your computers motherboard and also check in the bios to ensure LBA is enabled and that its detecting the hard drive.

Dimension 4700 with Barracuda 500Gb SATA HDD

You have to go online and search then download the drivers for preparing SATA laptop harddrives for installation of Windows XP otherwise during installation it will tell you there is no hard drive found.

Promise SATA300 TX2 Plus PCI controller card compatibility

Southbridge shouldn't matter as that is the controller for audio.
As the supported intel chipset is listed there should be no conflicts.

ASUS VIA KT133

Your motherboard does NOT support SATA drives, without an added SATA controller. It does support PATA drives, such as the Samsung SP2514N and the Seagate PATA drive you listed, as well as any other PATA drive. A PATA drive may be referred to as PATA, IDE, ATA100, ATA133, or even ATA66, but not SCSI, Ultra320, U320, or SATA, SATA II, SATA100, SATA300, etc.

The Seagate drives are easy to identify, their model number ends in AS if it is a SATA drive, and just A if it is a PATA drive.
